I'm a big fan of DIY electronics and Dave Bodnar has posted here about the DCC++ project. I wish there was more buzz about it so I am going to post what I found this morning.

Dave has developed hand held throttles for DCC++ and his latest is a wireless throttle with both potentiometer and encoder controllers. It's all detailed on his website which you can gather from this video he has posted.

Multiple Throttles

Greg,

I too have been following Dave Bodnar's amazing work.  The thing I find most appealing is that he can run multiple throttles connected wirelessly to a single HC-12 wireless chip on the DC++ Base Station, tested with three at the same time so far with no conflicts or corrupted packets.

I'm planning to use this setup on the small Coastal Cliffs layout that I am building which has trains of 6 different scales running, with a separate throttle for each scale.

Been Playing

I have been playing with DCC++, just for the fun of it. So far I am very impressed with it. I had some problems with a flaky motor shield, but it seems to have decided to work now! I was able to run 3 loco's at once using JMRI for the throttle or an iPad via the withrottle ap. The basic motor shield has limited current throughput, but adequate for my purposes. Next step will be to build one of these throttles, have to order the bits and pieces from China, that will take a month or 2 to get here. I confess to being an electronics Luddite, I know what a capacitor or transistor is, but that is about my limit of knowledge.

@Brent

The great thing with DCC++ is that you don't have to be an electronics genius. I think it's a wonderful option for folks who don't have hundreds of dollars to get started.

Dave Bodnar also has a high current booster that he has built and used with the DCC++ base station. I have all the parts, but haven't assembled it yet. Looks like it could be used with other systems as well.

He also has full details on his website. http://www.trainelectronics.com/DCC_Arduino/DCC_Booster/index.htm

And if you want to talk about DCC++

This is the website forum board were the original developer has built up a community to discuss the work (including Dave's excellent additions) and offer support
