Its time for this week's photo thread and as always, anything goes.

I haven't hijacked the WPF start up for a while - sorry Andrew, I'm in a frivolous mood today

Serving the mill

Another temporary TT scale (1:120) table top photo arrangement. The background picture was taken at the same industrial site I used for the last week's picture. Tomorrow, I will have another chance to visit that inspiring place. The enlarging close-up shot proves the high standard of models available today in TT scale.

Covered hopper

I had an undecorated cover hopper that needed an identity. While browsing the webz for such ID , I came across a very rusty ex- Chessie. At first I was not going to weather another heavy rust car.. well, it was almost black with rust. So...

Edit: additional pic (there ya go Scott )

Great start. Rob love that

Great start.

Rob love that scene. A Shay, caboose and beautiful old car. Favorites all

Joern Beautiful scene made even more real by the sepia coloring.

Tony love the subtle weathering on the covered hopper is great. Less is more,it looks like a used, but not abused car.

MKT Caboose #106

Rob - I know I have said before that I am not a big fan of steam but I have to tell you that shay is beautiful, as is that whole scene!

Joern - I can say the same about your steam era scene as well, you guys are close to making me want to rethink my position on steam!

Tony - That is a pretty rusted out hopper, nice job from what I can tell by that hard angle pic!

EDIT: TONY...That hopper looks good, like the caboose as well!

Ray - Looks like a great spot for the old model, fits right into its new surroundings!

Jeffery - You already know how much I like that hopper, but I thought I would go ahead and mention it again!!

Nothing new from me this week, you have all seen this caboose before but not on the "Country" dio that I completed not too long ago, have a great week everyone!

I am not a big fan of steam but .........

Thanks to all for your comments about the Shay photo and thanks to all for posting theirs - a great week so far

Scott - just to expand on your observation -  "I am not a big fan of steam but ......"

In some ways it's incidental that I model and photograph steam. It reflects an era choice that I took, but it could almost as easily have been diesel.

I think what we all do here is to attempt to create images that make us (and others) feel good and that's  actually Art ; not "playing trains" - to echo another thread that is barreling along right now.

So - I salute you, "artists all" who model and photograph what they love.

Another great WPF

Once again, another great WPF.  Very impressive contributions by all!

Ray O., I especially love the feel of your photo.  I must admit that my participation on MRH lately has largely been of the "drive by" variety, just skimming the forum now and then, so I originally missed your "59th & Rust" thread.  However, after seeing this photo, I had to learn more about your layout, and I was really impressed by what I saw.  Really nice!

And as a somewhat modern modeler, I like it even better seeing the equipment in today's photo.  You've done a great job of representing NYC, but seeing the CSX boxcar and low-numbered Alco switcher, my first thought was that you were modeling a 1980s Michigan shortline like the Lenawee County.  Amazing what you've created in your space.

Some more of the same stuff...

One more pic of my H0n3 East of Yuma module and some remarks to answer Mark Evans' question from last week:

The module consists of two 3' by 1' 6'' module boxes joined at a 90° angle, making room for a 90° curve.

Module boxes are of standard plywood construction. Roadbed is cork on plywood. Scenery base above the track ist built up from rigid insulation foam, while depressions are formed from chicken wire. Everything is colored a dirt tone to give a somewhat uniform base. Basic scenery is locally collected dirt, rock debris and pieces of Silflor grass mats. Some larger plants and brushes are by Silflor while others are homemade wire brushes. Conifers are cheap Heki bottlebrush firs, cut back  and re-shaped to resemble Juniper trees.

MKT Caboose

Scott: it's not the caboose or cylindrical hopper, it's the whole scene: Corrects size and dimension of the stop sign, cross bucks, road markers, telephone pole, gravel road...all blending smoothly. Very nicely done.
