I'm hearing through the grapevine that Neil made some changes to his Deerfield yard module. Neil, if this is true can you tell us what you did and maybe post some pics?

Thank you!

Deerfield Module Rebuilt

Hi Andy,

Yes, I rebuilt the Deerfield module to make it more prototypical and closer to the actual scale.  I trashed the original piece of plywood shown below and replaced it with a piece of 3" styrofoam that I had.   Here's some in progress photos I took back in May.  At some point I'd like to recreate another day at East Deerfield in 1982, but I'm waiting for a free weekend when we get some nice weather

Thanks,

-Neil

Deerfield Engine Terminal Photo

Andy,

The abutments were originally a coal unloading dock I believe, though I've never seen any good photos of what it looked like in the steam days.  The row of concrete abutments separated the engine facility from the cooperative grain dealer at the rear.  Here's a great aerial photo taken by Kevin Burkholder and posted on railpictures.net showing the abutments as they exist today, long after the original steam era sand towers were replaced in 1985.

Coal trestle

That was my first thought, a coal trestle, but then I second guessed myself and kept my mouth shut. Lol.

Great module Neil. You are a gifted modeler. Are you going to incorporate it into your new layout?

Great work Neil

Great work Neil. I really like how you simulated the oil spill. Very realistic for that time period. Of course today the EPA would have a field day there. Lol! Is this module part of your layout or do you use it in a modular club? If it is incorporated into your layout I'd love to see how you fit it in.

Thanks for sharing!

A place for East Deerfield on the layout

Andy,

I'd love to include East Deerfield into the next layout, but there's no room for it.  I am enjoying using it as a photo prop for roster shots however.  It brings back so many memories of spending a summer day at East Deerfield, watching trains coming and going from Railfan's bridge and sneaking down to the engine terminal when there was some cool consist resting under the Sand Towers.

Deerfield Yard layout circa 70’s

Hi there !!! Just viewed your Deerfield module...VERY NICE !!

I am trying to find a layout plan of the yard during the 1970’s

I used to live in northern New Hampshire but now reside in Denver, CO

I am interested in the B&M pre Guilford years of late 50’s to 1980

Any help is greatly appreciated

@bandmfan

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply.  I don't have any track diagrams of the yard prior to its rebuilding in 1980, but I thought I thought there was a diagram of the yard layout in a B&M bulletin circa 1981ish.  It showed the pre and post rebuilding layout.  If I can find it I'll repost.

Thanks,

-Neil Schofield
