Super Elevated curves----

My layout is old, started back in the mid 70's. Since then I've added, as well as I have redone a lot of it. All of my curves are "super elevated" using narrow strips of card stock about 5/6" wide, cut from cereal boxes, or pop can cartons! it's the right thickness, and when notched half the width about every 1/2", it bends nicely under the outer edge of the ties along the curves.

Once it's ballasted, you don't see it.Instead of white glue, I now use Matte Medium. It doesn't dry out like white glue does over time, and has a little bit more of a flexible bond. Mist the ballast with 70% alcohol, and dribble the matte medium in with a pipette, or eyedropper.

If you want to remove & clean track that has been ballasted with matte medium, spray it down heavily with alcohol, and then pry it up carefully with a putty knife. After turnouts or track have been removed, soak it in a pan with 91% alcohol, and all the matte medium, paint, etc., can be scrubbed off with a brush!
