As the title says.

I have a Broadway limited Y6b where the decoder malfunctions.

It loses connection with the DCC and has a strange short.

When measured, I got an open circuit from the tender pickups to both sides of the drive wheels simultaneously....

I was thinking of ripping it out and replace it with a Econami 200 steam decoder.

Anyone has a schematic to show where the wires from the loco plug goes?

And, is it possible to connect the smoke system to it?

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

I live in Sweden, so after my last encounter with BLI service, it cost me $125 in shipping/customs fees...

I therefore would like to avoid that now.

Rewire?

Graffen,

Do you get continuity between the tender wheels and the circuit (DCC?) board? How about from the circuit board to the motor terminals? From your description it sounds like you might just want to resolder and or rewire from the pickups to the circuit board. If you don't get any satisfaction consider rewiring from the circuit board to the motor terminals. Also check the insulation on all of the wires particularly at "pinch-points" where there could be a short between the wire and the frame.

On a whole different tack, could any of the wheels be interminably touching the frame causing a short?

Hope this helps,

Dick

N or HO?

If N scale off the top of my head its center two are motor, next two out are pickup and outer two are head light.

I get no shorts in the wiring

I get no shorts in the wiring itself. The short seems to be in the circuit board...

This is a HO scale Y6b.

I have concluded that the two outward are power pickups from the locomotive.

Have you asked BLI for wiring diagram?

Will BLI tell you the connections between decoder's wires and what it controls?

No shipping or customs fees for e-mail info.

The smoke generator

Ahh! Of course.

I got contact with BLI, and they will send a replacement decoder.

Very nice!

To answer your question

To answer your question Michel. I re wired 2 of my BLI 2-8-2 (one was paragon the other was a blueline) locos with TCS decoders.

I had to open up both of the locos and trace the wiring. back to the teather connection. I then did a continuity test to double check and was able to wire in the decoder without "letting the smoke out"   they were wired slightly diffrent. I think the head light was the diffrence?

I have replaced the decoder

I have replaced the decoder with a new Paragon 2 and it works, but the fan won't switch off regardless of the on off switch?!?

And the front light has stopped working.

Strange....
