David Calhoun

I am looking for some help identifying sources for HO scale figures and scenery detail items. I have repeatedly searched the web and the advertisers for figures that I have seen in various photos both here and on Facebook. But I do not find anything but the "standard" Presser and Woodland Scenics people and building interior items like desks, chairs etc.

Are there any "secret" sources for figures in poses other than the standard ones seen in the aforementioned paragraph? Maybe there are "tips" on repositioning arms and legs that I don't know about and repainting of the new poses. I'd like to find things like hotel lobbies and registration desks; retail shelving and displays for supermarkets and small stores. Where are things like this available or are they being hand crafted?

Thanks for your input and suggestions. I have over 20 buildings to light and scenic and I want to not keep repeating the same looks from building/store to store.

Check the selection on Ebay.

Check the selection on Ebay.  There are many suppliers, just find the ones you like.  There is no one figure for every body position you seek, and no one "secret" web site, or supplier.

It seems the European and China venders have the most.  And, also check Joe's suggestion above, for Shapeways.

I have changed arm and leg positions by using a wood burner / soldering type iron, to soften and move, then sanding, etc., to get it look good from a distance.  It depends on how close the figures will be to the viewer.

If they are in a passenger car, you may have to cut off the legs to get them to sit right.

Just some suggestions,

Mike

Other HO Figure Manufactures.

While Preiser & Woodland Scenics certainly have the lion's share of the HO figure market, Noch, Merten, Faller, Vollmer and Viessman all make very nice HO figures. Viessman even have some that are animated. A good source is the Walther's website or catalog although these brands can sometimes have limited availability.

If your looking to add some controversy and spice

To your scenes, check out all the figures that Noch has to offer.  All of the figure manufacturers that Louiex2 mentions above make good looking figures.  I like them better than the figures from the Asian markets, but that's my opinion.

I have to add many for figures to my scenes, too.  Right now, I'm keeping an eye out for a brakeman / conductor for my switching loco.  I try to add an engineer to my locos when ever I upgrade a loco with DCC, paint, details, etc., and for my road locos, I add the conductor.

Shapeways for interiors

Some people on Shapeways have made nice building interiors. Model Tech studios do all kinds of nice shelves, desks, etc.
