Gents,
I like building and decaling kits, so I bought 5 bagged Red Caboose boxcar kits on eBay. Looks like cutting those micro-thin pipes and things off the sprues will be tricky, we'll have to see.
Main question is: Has anyone built these, and can point out any things to watch out for? The first thing that I wonder about is the instructions saying "drill 3 holes for tall retainer" and "Drill hole for tall brake mechanism". There are no dimples to indicate where to drill, nor holding the end to the light can I see any spots that might be the drilling points. Beside that, there is only ONE pin on the tall retainer, I would think if you drill 3 holes there would be 2 more pins somewhere to keep it aligned?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, don't want to re-invent the wheel if someone already knows the score.
I have googled and Bing'ed looking for info, trust me, having the words Red Caboose in a search brings 1000s of useless hits.
My kit instructions say American Car & Foundry 4-3-1 End  10'6" Boxcar. I have found a pdf instruction sheet for Red Caboose "1937 AAR Standard Box Car" which I think is what my kits really are. All other Red Caboose 40 foot instructions show the ends as separate pieces to be glued to the body, my kits have the ends molded to the body. Confusing.
TIA,
Michael Smith
