This is a picture of the Matthews Yard as it exists today on my layout.  The picture was taken by my friend, Bob Wheeler.  I built the yard as a "newbee" and made some serious mistakes including putting 6 of the 9 tracks at the back of the yard instead of the front.  The good news is that the yard section (30" wide by 13-1/2' long) is built as a section.  I can build a new yard section outside of my train room and switch it out in a few hours.  I'll probably use the buildings over.

Per Nick's request here are a few more pictures of the Matthews Freight Yard.  Thanks Nick for your kind words.

This view is looking towards the back curve were traffice enters & exits the yard

Here's a view of the roundhouse & engine house.  The roundhouse has a welder LED / sound unit in the pit that looks & sounds like a welder in operation.  It is activated somewhat randomly when rolling stock with magnets mounted on the bottom pass over three magnetic reed switches embedded in the roadbed.

This is a view of the sand drying house & sandbox.  the structure is a kitbash of a welding shop.  The sandbox is made out of individual carved foam blocks.

This is a side view of the yard looking across the aisle.  The structure in the approximate middle of the yard is the yard office, a Walthers pre-assembled unit.  The buildings in the lower left are part the the downtown district of Hoovertown.  The backdrop is from Backdrop Warehouse and is actually a "O' scale "blem".  There are some buildings on the backdrop that because of their scale would have been too large, so I dropped them below the layout line.  I got the backdrop for about 1/5th the price of their standard price because it was a "first run".

Thanks for the extra photos

Outstanding !  You have done your homework well. Things like that is what keep us motivated to keep our pike in progress. I like the way you set the engine facilities, very clever indeed.
