Unable to contact with my locos. I have a DT402 and a UT4. DB150 shows all correct indicators- power on. track status ok. I have a dedicated programming section. Loco shows headlight on. DT402 shows smoking chimney when loco is selected BUT no response to throttle command. Plug in UT4 and it indicates that loco is selected but no response to throttle. What can I do to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Address?

I'm assuming you have the correct address dialed in? If so, then next I'd reset the decoder and start afresh with address 03 and reconfigure the setup.

Address

Paul,

I should have mentioned that I tried to program the decoder but  when PROG is pressed the display reads "Fn" and when I press PROG to cycle to option Pg it does not happen. Tom

Are you in Stand-by mode?

Have a look at the power indicator dot on the DT402.  It's towards the top right of the LCD display.  If the dot is flashing you're in Standby mode.  The layout is getting track power but it's not receiving DCC commands.  Press the power button and then the + (plus) button.  You may need to press the + button twice.

Hope this Helps,

Don't switch

Telling you to switch is like telling a Chevy guy to buy a Ford if he's having car problems - it doesn't fix the problem.  If nobody posts a fix here you might consider contacting Digitrax.  I've found their tech support to be helpful.

Yes I was

thanks Niel. You had it right. If I paid more attention and read the manual properly I would have known. I've had the DT402 for only about a year and have a lot to learn yet. Much appreciated for the help. No thoughts of switching systems. Kind regards. Tom

I recall someone else had this same problem a while back so I hope I can remember the answer if my locos start acting funny :> ) ........DaveB

Buy a PR3 and use JMRI

The best thing I did was to buy a PR3 and use it with JMRI. My interest in modelling is in this area so it is a natural fit but it is relatively straight forward and easy to put together, it took me only a few hours of tinkering. Let JMRI read your CVs and pick up issues you may have.

**I have both NCE and Digitrax, I prefer the NCE cab's design and feel but personally get more out of Digitrax as a system for functionality from having used it extensively for club layouts.

Glad your issue...

is resolved. One more tip, I had communication problems with my loco net. I made my oun cables and after much frustration finally purchase a Digitrax tester for the 6 conductor cable. I had three bad cables connecting my BDL168, SE8C and the layout.  It's cheap and well worth the investment.    John

I bought

I bought this

http://www.amazon.com/Optimal-Shop-Network-Cable-Tester/dp/B00NDWBGHS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1457042697&sr=8-9&keywords=cable+tester

Paid for itself the first time I used it.  Has Ethernet and digitrax connectors beside being a "remote" testor.  You plug a little box that clips to the testor for carrying to one end and have the testor at the other end, push the button and you have the answer!

dont switch

AMEN used Digitrax from day one and absolutely had no problems.I am using the system on free-mo and now Fremo and now on my forth home layout and in school modular layout here in Czech republic http://www.modelarskykrouzekvranenadvltavou.estranky.cz/.

Have fun with your trains and don't believe everything you hear  from those who has something else...like late Don Crane ones

said to me: there are many system and they  are all good, but you choose what you are comfortable with...
