So here is the information: I have three left and three right Micro engineering turnouts, I have 18 feet of flextrack and a 2'x10' ft. Table. It is code 83 if that matters and am looking for some designs other than mine. I get the shipment today (2/3) so sooner ideas come around the better!

2x12

My (under construction) switching layout is roughly 2' (actually, 21") by 12', and has a total of 9 switches.

It was carefully designed with a runaround in the middle, and enough track to the left of the runaround to pull out the entire contents (I built a layout once where you could only move one car at a time and never did much with it), and an interchange track around the back to represent a connection to the rest of the world. Operationally cars would come from the interchange track to the various industries.

You can shorten and shift a few things around and drop one or two spurs if you want to do something like this.

Also some industries I would like:

Scrap Yard: 1 Gondola Spot

Lumber Yard: 2 Woodchip Hoppers and 2 Bulkheads

Coal Yard: 1 Coal Hopper

Propane Dealer: 1 Tank Car

Warehouse: 2-3 Boxcars

Could any of these be linked and are there any end of line possible designs?

See if you can find a logical way to fit those industries on your 2 ft by 10 ft benchwork , then figure out how to run tracks to them. What results is the layout......DaveB

6 switch layout, 3 left and 3 right

The Gateway nmra site has some good ideas.  Here's a layout measuring 60" by 14".  I used this as a reference for two 4' Fre-Mo modules I built.

this picture shows about 7' of the two 4' modulesomodules.jpg

I just received this in an email, sounds like it fits the bill?

TRACK PLAN DATABASE

FROM THE MARCH ISSUE

HO scale Fall Creek Branch

In the  March issue, Robert Pethoud describes the operating potential of his HO scale Fall Creek Branch switching railroad. This shelf layout consists of three 15” x 48” modules and packs a lot of switching action into a small space.

seems it could easily be done with three rights and three lefts.

Do the industries you want to model fit on there and look logical? Would this be the best plan to display them? Does the operational possibilities seem to match what you'd like to simulate? Generally I think a unique plan designed for one's needs and space is better than a plan from a book because they were designed for someone else's needs.....DaveB
