hobby paint

It seems that the federal government in Canada is intruding into our hobby.Floquil and Poly scale will get very hard to find.I personally have no luck with water based paint so I will be in trouble. It looks like we will be turned into criminals smuggeling paint into Canada.I will update this info when I know more

Brian, I used to use Citadel paints to great effect - they're water based, and while they don't have the fancy names like Depot Green (they use engaging terms like Snot Green instead) the color range is pretty darn complete.

Maybe they might be easier to find than the Polly Scale?

And what of Trueline Trains' paints? They're a Canadian company, so perhaps they'd be easier to find?

Trueline paint will be available as well as Scalecoat and the CNlines paints. The government couldbe upset with either the labels or the lack of a child safe cap

I hope it's not the child proof cap since I can thing of many examples of products that have no child safe caps that are easily more  harmful than model paints!

Labels...is this the bilingual thing coming back to bite us in the rear again?

That could be there is no information as to why Floquil is not allowed in.It is hard to comply with something when you don't know what to comply with.

If you can't find regular hobby paint, try this

If you can't find any of the paints reccomended here, try going to an arts & crafts store (I don't know what the chain up in Canada is, but Michaels is a good U.S. example) and try to find Acrylic paint in the shades and colors you need. I use it all the time for wethering, and adding the illigal art called "Graffitti" on railcars and locomotives all of the time, and it's easy to work with ( as long as it's not sealed, you can remove it) and it's easy to clean off of any surface. Also, try looking for general colors in the big-name super store (Again, I don't know what's in Canada for it, but Wal-Mart is the U.S. example) it will be cheeper than arts & crafts stores paint, and it will be plentiful, as long as your close to the store.

One warning: If you paint with artist's Acryllic paints, and you plan to wether the model, seal the model beforehand, or wether with oil paints (To be on the safe side, I still seal the paint before wethering)

Update

Apparently the Government now requires bilinguel labels and child proof caps.My local hobby shop is working on this so Floquil and Poly s should be available again in the future. This happens of course after I bought all the floquil I needed.

I figured as much.

Using child proof caps could prove too challenging for most of our politicians. That is assuming any of them are diverse enough to have a hobby in the first place! [wink]

I'm not sure the current Prime Minister is fluent in either language and they are worried about bilingual labels on hobby paints! [grin]
