Running The Stewarts

I got these Stewart F3's for $30 for the pair, not a bad steal if I do say so myself, both units are powered.
One of the coupler pads on the B unit was broken, so I contact Bowser about a replacement, the good news is they have the part in stock, its only a $1.04 each, not bad, but the shipping is around $10.00, so I rigged up a drawbar using a pair of Walthers dummy couplers, they do look nice and do the job well, since Bowser, just like Stewart before them, won't sell any F unit shells separately, well, lets just say I ain't payin' no 10 bucks shipping for a one buck piece, but as you can see in this video, they work quite well!

I'm not familiar with the Stewart.
I know of the Stewart models, some members of the club are runnning some of their F-units, but I have never looked that closely at how the couplers are mounted. I'm just wondering if a Kaddee #5 coupler box would mount on the screw that you used to mount the dummy coupler? If the clearance is tight, as it is on a lot of F-unts, I've used the half rounded coupler box that is designed for the "hairpin" style centering spring. I've never succeeded in getting one of those hairpin springs installed, but I don't care whether I have coupler centering or not anyway.
Russ, I use No.5 couplers in
Russ, I use No.5 couplers in the universal draftgear box, the coupler pads snap in, similar to the Bachman plus mounts, although in the coupler index, it calls for the No.450 conversion, thats especially important if you want to couple the units the proper 3 feet apart, me on the other hand, rigged up a drawbar system that works well.
Kadee Couplers on Stewart F-Units
I had exactly the same problem. 10 bucks shipping for 1 buck part. My solution was the kadee #450 coupler conversion.

Works great and units look better.
