Hey everyone, I have recently purchased a NCE USB to run with JMRI.

However, I am having difficulty with the USB itself, as one LED will show at a time, either the USB near PC end, or the CAB PCP end. Still unable to program anything with it.

I have downloaded recent drivers, made sure it is set as the 7.x.x version and also removed appropriate jumpers on the USB. I am using the curly cord on the right side of the PCP like instructed.

Also i am running Windows 7

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Nick

Just checking but you are

Just checking but you are using NCE PowerCab correct?

There should be NO jumpers on the USB for use with the PowerCab.

JMRI Preferences

Did you tell JMRI that you are using NEC DCC System and are connected via NEC USB?

I read that if I am using

I read that if I am using just the system itself it requires jumper 1,3 and 4 but I do have a PowerCab also.

Jumpers

I couldn’t get it to work until I removed all the jumpers. My settings with OS X.

For what its' worth here a pic of my board/jumper settings

I have an NCE PowerCab and this set up worked fine for JMRI on Windows 7 and now Windows 10.

Trying everything

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I have tried the different setting with the jumpers and I am still having no luck, with the PowerCab plugged into the PCP, i will only get the 1 LED showing still, then if i try to run the system without the PowerCab and just the USB itself, i only get the LED on the usb side. Very frustrating for a new item to be doing this.

Here is what I get using my PowerCab & USB

Here is what I get using my PowerCab & USB with JMRI DecoderPro.

I am using Windows 10, I have an older NCE USB so I'm using version setting 6.x.x. and using Bruad rate 9,600 and No jumpers.

When all is hooked up and working with the computer I have no LEDs on the USB lit. The only times the LEDs light is when I am sending and/or receiving CV from/to a decoder and they flash when the info is being sent/received.

Cables

Do you know for sure that your cables are okay? Do you have other cables you can try? Can you make a photo of your connections both at the PCP and USB interface. Have you followed the instructions that NCE provides for the PowerCab and interface to the letter?

And you can't run your layout just with the USB AFAIK; the PowerCab provides the power to the track like a booster would (unless you have one of those separately installed).

Two things that have been

Two things that have been overlooked by others in the past -

1) The red led on the panel should be on the bottom. - I know this sounds like a simple thing, but one fellow thought he had the cable plugged into the "right" socket. Unfortunately he had the panel upside down.

2) I connect the USB cord to the connector on the back of the panel. The one next to the power adapter input plug. I think it's supposed to be the same as the socket on the panel, but try it, you have nothing to lose.

and 3) sounds like it's time to call NCE, they do answer the phone.

Socket on back

I also am using the socket on the back for my USB interface - mainly so that I can run the cable underneath my benchwork to my Mac.

Finding more issues.

The USB I am using is version 7.x.x and the first jumper from my understanding relates to the baud, JP1 off = 9600 and JP1 on = 19200, apparently is also quicker. I have played around with the Jumpers like you guys have suggested and also some settings i have looked at myself, and now i also get a error code saying it cant read the loco

on my PCP I am using the curly cable on the right side, with the LED at the bottom. So its all set up correctly, and the cables themselves have been tested before use and are in working form.

Nick.
