First Trains across the Peace River (Video)

A major milestone has been passed.  The first test trains were run across the Peace River bridge this weekend.  At this point everything is under temporary DC power.  Rail joins on the bridge need to be soldered for good electrical conductivity and all my locomotives need a good run to break them in.  Despite that, the test runs went well.

Here is a video of some of the test runs.   Since the bridge is the only powered trackage at this point the footage shows just light engine moves and a short freight consist.    Eventually multi-unit lashups with 20 to 30 cars will be crossing this bridge.

The bridge was a major

The bridge was a major kitbashing effort involving eight of the new Central Valley N scale through-truss kits.  Each span required 2 kits (and about 12 hours) to complete.  The piers were carved out of balsa wood.  Compared to the protototype spans, the models are about 15% under scale but the general appearance is very close.   The prototype bridge also has 5 full spans where mine has 4 due to space constraints.

Here is a second video

Here is a second video showing a few more views of the bridge.   It was a good excuse to lash up five GE units and dub in some authentic GE sounds

Very nice scene!

Wow!  While I can tell the backdrop is very close behind, it took a few look-sees.  This shows a lot can be seen in a shallow scene - excellent job!
