age(86).jpeg I really like my Proxxon miter saw but it had some safety issues that had to be addressed.  I used to build custom cabinets so I am always looking to improve the performance of my woodworking tools.  The Proxxon design differs from other miter saws in the way you cut miters.  Most saws the blade rotates around a fixed base but with the Proxxon the base rotates around a fixed blade therefore the base has a divot to allow for blade clearance.  The wood is clamped on the left but has no support on the right.  When the blade cuts thru any wood to the right can and most times will contact the blade and go flying.  This could cause some serious injury especially to the face!  To solve this problem I filled the divot with auto body filler (Bondo).  The base was masked then filled with Bondo and leveled.  Once cured the Bondo plug was removed and top was sanded so it would be flush with saw base.  Interior of divot was also sanded to remove no stick factory coating.  Plug was then epoxied in place and allowed to cure overnight.  I then gently plunged the blade into the plug.  Another item I modified was the blade guard.  The flimsy plastic factory guard broke after a couple of uses so I made a wooden one.  Hope this is helpful to someone.
