Using Bullfrog switch machines with small scale turnouts

Sun, 2010-03-21 06:50 — TimWarris
The large diameter throwbar wire included with the Bullfrog switch machines is the secret to making them work so well. This provides plenty of torque to operate even the most stubborn turnouts.
Using these with smaller scale turnouts, which have narrower throwbar ties can be difficult though. The diameter of the throwbar wire can be larger then the tie we are trying to put it through.
In the video above I show a technique that can be used to join a short length of small diameter wire to the wire included with the switch machine. This provides the best of both worlds, the power of the standard wire, and a small wire to be used with smaller turnouts.
Hope this is helpful,

Nice fix! Dave. this should help you with your throwbar drilling difficulties.
Got the video cueing up
YouTube is banned here at work (for good reason), so at lunch I started the video to get it cached on my computer. The camp internet connection is brutal, but it sounds like the solution I need. I ended up already purchasing the HOn3 PCB ties and got one installed this past week (didn't update my blog - a very busy week) and it certainly worked, but they are obviously oversized and out of place. This should be the better solution.
