airwolf crazy

Greetings,

Has anyone seen or read this Ebook by Robert Anderson?

I am still very interested in learning but I am finding that I am getting kind of picky about what books I am buying.

Christopher

MODERATOR NOTE: We elected to remove the direct link to this book. Ordinarily we allow modelers to post links to vendor products without restriction, but given the somewhat "ambiguous" nature of this particular product, we've decided this could constitute unintential "free advertising endorsement" of a book we don't want to endorse or recommend.

Why an ebook?

I would look at the DVD's available form model-trains-video.com instead.

Honestly

I'm a little suspicious of sites like that.  It very well could be decent content, but the whole thing is set up as a poor man's infomercial.  I have made a couple purchases in the past from websites eerily similar to that (though with different content - not model railroading related info), and found the content to be wanting.  A lot said, little gained by me in the end.

Only Second Hand Knowledge

Hi Christopher-

While I haven't read it myself I had a friend in the hobby who purchased it and did not give it the greatest of reviews.  While he said it did have a decent amount of information contained in it if you subscribe to the major hobby pubs you probably have already seen most of what is contained in here in cycle of articles that reappear in MR and RMC (i.e. how to ballast, wire track, build benchwork etc.) but if you don't read those it might be a worthwhile "one stop shop" for some decent 30K foot information on the hobby.

I hope that's at least somewhat helpful.

EDIT:  Skiloff has put this more or eloquently and succinctly than I.  What he said!

For the money, you can do better elsewhere

For the money, I think you can do better elsewhere. I've seen the book(s) - this person or person(s) books are very broad but not very deep. In other words, they cover a lot of topics, but not in lots of detail.

You would be better served to pick a topic you want to learn (DCC for instance) and then spend the money on books from Kalmbach and Carstens. You can trust those publishers to cover the topic in depth and what you purchase won't be a waste of money.

I also invite you to post a "wish list" of article topics you would like MRH to cover. If we can, we'll track down an article or two on that topic - with video included, if possible. And of course, the price will be right for you ... (wink)

good advice and good points

Greetings all,

Thanks for the advice and information.  I will put the money towards more model materials.

Christopher

PS: Joe, I tried sending you a message through your profile page.  Did you get it or did I not do it right?

Yes the videos are great...

If you have all of Joe's videos then I'll second what he says.

I have purchased a number of books from both of these publishers and have yet to be sorry.  Lot's of them can be found in your Public Library where you can enjoy them for free and then just buy the ones that are crucial references that should be in every modelers library.

DON'T BUY THIS BOOK everything is free on internet

First This airwolf Crazy Guy  may not be the one actually selling this Book but the guy that owns this site and the E-Book has tried 2 other times to Sell or advertise this E-Book here and has been Deleted I have been offered to get paid if I would go to Model Railroading web sites and promote this E-book. I may be wrong but this post looks like a cheep trick to advertise this E-Book for free here on MRH,

JOE Delete this Scammer Spammer I see airwolf crazy has been here for a year with just 1 post and it is just a little strange about track work back on Feb 1st. I may be wrong about "airwolf crazy" if I am wrong I apologize for my accusation but when I read his post my spam alert went crazy as there is no other posts about anything from this guy other then tearing out ready made track and hand spiking form now on and never any follow up.

3 years ago I bought this so called Book of Model Railroading secrets and it's a scam you can find every ounce of it all free on the internet.

If You're a Day one beginner and want to know the basics of Model Railroading then go to Kalmbach Publications and pick up one of their beginner books called "HO' Primer or N" Primer it has all the information for $6.00 AND IF you have both the Primer and Model Train Help & step-by-step guide and lay them next to each other you can read the same information word for word.

If you want all the information provided in this E-Book free go to HO Wiki and you can find everything again for free and I would almost bet is where he copied most of his book from check the following link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H0_scale

Ever sentence in this book is Basic model railroading for the first day beginner and has been copied from someone else that actually did all the work compiling the information and this guy copied everything and now tries selling to the unsuspecting model Railroader thinking they are getting some great new Book that has never been produced before.

Want to know about DCC and in three times the detail with better and more information go to the DCC University and get it all FREE at the following link   http://litchfieldstation.com/DCC-University/University.htm.

If you give this guy your E-Mail address you will get spam mail everyday for the rest of your life from him until you buy his book and then you never hear from him again or at least not for 2 days when then everyday after that spams you to buy his Video tour E-Book which turns out to be links to thousands of You-Tube Videos that are free also.

Sorry for my rant everyone but this book and his post is a scam and if you know anything about model railroading you know everything provided in this E-book and you probably know more.

Joe If I were you delete this post as it is not anything but an add almost word for word that I get in E-mails with a link to his main site.

I don't get the impression that Air Wolf Crazy is trolling for sales.

I don't think that a lack of follow up to a forum posts, or not posting much are reasons to come down on the original poster.   I'd suggest the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Cheers.

Dave That's why I put in the underlined

Dave that's why I put in the underlined Apology to airwolf in my rebuttal to his posting in case I was out of line as He also may have been duped into thinking it was a good link to quality Model Railroading.

But the link he has posted is the Exact same link that I get every other day in email and that has been posted here twice that I know of by people that have logged in as a new member and their only statement has been check out this great Railroad information when actually they were trying to get free add space.. The second time It was Posted it said Wow I just got the great new E-book with everythig you'll ever neen to build a model railroad. Which I again alearted the administraters as to the spamer looking for free add space  so all I could do was give every body the alert to don't waist their money on this E-Book.

Again it's their money and also once again I apology to airwolf crazy if he is a legitimate member and also tell him avoid the guy selling that E-book as it can all be attained free on the internet or right here on MRH forums and the Magazine again for free.

Interesting...

Dan, I'll admit my ad/spam spider sense was tingling the moment I saw this post but I decided to let it go and see where it took us.

I agree the information in the e-book is already public domain and new, better ideas are probably coming out freely in forums like this one and in  the pages of MRH for that matter.

I hope airwolf crazy, if a legitimate subscriber, is not too put off by your exuberant reaction, airwolf, I can assure you Dan means well.  We all have it in for spam, spammers and advertisers looking for a free ride.  We do it for the betterment of our forum.  Please don't take offense.

Dan, at the very least, we are all aware now and those of us who patrol regularly will be watching closely. [Smile]

Dan I think you could be wrong...

After looking back at airwolf crazy's forum participation I'm pretty sure you were mistaken about his intent.

after reading the rest of his

after reading the rest of his posts I Think I was wrong too I am also a Spam Killer and don't abuse it I just wanted everybody to Know (NO FAULT to airewolf crazy) that the book is a Scam for some guy to take advantage of pore unsuspecting New Model Railroaders that the Book is a rip off as I got ripped off even though I can afford to be taken in for the junk Books it's only $40.00 but alot of thes new guys can get much better books or products for their $40.00 then the book also as they have been sending me spam on this E-book for more than 3 years and I have read all the fine print that everytime someone clicks and buys: from the small print if you put this link on your web page++: The Model Train Help ebook has one of the highest paying affiliate programs on the internet - paying a generous 60% commission for every sale your refer.
Based on the current selling price of $39.97 you will earn a MASSIVE $21.58 for every visitor you bring to our site that buys the ebook.

You can read the rest of this sales pitch simply by going to the bottom of the Model Train Help ebooks first page and click the Are you interested in getting paid for telling people about this M_RR Book?

This is why I thought it to be SPAM and yet I didn't Delete it as I wanted all the spam crew to see and make the choice. I just thought the LINK on his post and only the link should be Deleted not his post simply because Somebody NOT MRH is making money off of that link and yhe way I understood the spam job is to check more then what in front of everybody. If Joe and MRH wanted to make some money at this and had the link on this MRH forum I wouldn't have said a word.

e-book

I have to agree with Rio Grande Dan on this one. Not that the OP is a spammer, but the E-Book guy started a "forum" some time ago and I registered. My bad! I received e-mails touting his publications for months after I hurriedly "un-registered". In fact, it's been over a year ago and I occasionally still get stuff from the guy. And yes, it didn't take me long (as a rookie) to figure out that nearly everything in his book is available for FREE!

Not a spammer

Greetings all,

Dan, I am not a seller of this ebook and I am not a spammer or a troll.  It is true that I do not post much just due to the fact that I do not have a lot of time to sit and write out responces.  I did read your postings on this thread and at first I was a bit ticked but then after reading them again I realized the tone of what you were saying.  So, no hard feelings here.

It is clear from the posts that this book is NOT something to purchase.  Therefore, I will not be doing so.  This was the whole point of this thread- to get advise.

As for the comment regarding tearing out the track; I am not new to this hobby but in the past few year I have gotten more serious about it.  I have built a few smaller layouts and I have helped with others.  I have learned but I have still made mistakes.  The replacment of the track on the current layout is just one more step in my learning and correcting previous mistakes.

Joe, I saw that you removed the direct link.

To all, I will continue to post on this and other forums but as before it will be few and far between as I post when I need to and when I have a question that I cannot find answered by searching through the records of these forums.

Take care,
Christopher

Airwolf Crazy I

Airwolf Crazy I wholeheartedly want to say I apologize for making you feel the least bit uncomfortable as that was not my intention. I'm a spam moderator and take the responsibility very seriously and knew if you were a spammer you would never answer anything.

At that time I made my original post the only thing I knew is that the link you posted was a (unknowingly to you) a free sales pitch and I knew or at least knew this guy had been trying to get a link to his books on the MRH web site without paying the Advertising fee to MRH for more than a year. This Company is Based outside the U.S. & Canada and gets around the laws so his spamming continues. He or that company Does the same thing to other Railroad forums forums and RR web sites and most don't see that he is a back door advertiser that has 7 different Book Titles that all contain the exact same content. The main difference is he mixes up the chapters or the order in which they are presented and calls the Books by different Titles.

What really has me out to get him is that his Money back guarantee along with the untold Model RR secrets is also a lie. I down loaded his book of 1000 links more than 3 years ago which after thumbing through found to be other peoples work and he was taking the credit for their work as well as it is a basic model railroading beginners book and was nothing like what was claimed.

I requested a refund for the $39.95 I was charged and also found I had been charged an additional $7.95 for the shipping charges. WHAT shipping it was a down load over the internet. My refund was never received just an E-Mail saying that I had opened the content and voided any possible refund.

I reported him to the Better Business burrow and my returning report was that this company is outside U.S. and Canada jurisdiction and they were unable to help. basically a Buyer - Beware

since I can't stop this guy I made my report to everybody here about this book and just wanted Joe or another Programming Moderator to Delete the Book link Which Joe has done now so hopefully everybody now knows the Book as it is -A big Scam.

Airwolf Crazy I really am very sorry you were caught up in the middle and that my accusation about you were totally wrong. Please don't let this stop you from visiting and joining in with the MRH forums as I have found it to be the most honest and informative Model Railroad Magazine and forum on the internet or in publication and really I'm working hard to Keep it that way maybe too hard as I'm only a volunteer and not employed by MRH.

Also now that we know You, I hope to hear more about your modeling and look forward to it.

I wish I had found this

I wish I had found this thread before I had purchased this ebook! It certainly wasn't worth the money and I bought it at half price.

Live & learn.

Mike

(edit)

Now that I think about it, I wish I had found this web site before I purchased this ebook!
