I try to gather recent on going construction progress on my layout in this blog here.

While I was busy with other tasks on the railroad, I managed to get my focus on finishing the first section of the Cleveland & Eastern RR - Elizabeth Oaks.

There are several project waiting to be done. Among these I want to discard the "out-of-the-box" East-Grain Mill and replace the two Cornerstone buildings with one scratch built mill complex.

Photos below show the mock-up building

I am satisfied with the arrangement, I will keep the original track configuration. The building will feature a loading shed for flour shipped in bags via boxcars, a receiving dock and a bulk loading facility.

cheers,
Mike

Second project I am currently

Second project I am currently working on :

Dan's Oil

The photos above show the storage tanks, with a service walkway. Pump house and piping still to come.

As I try to get most of the stuff scratch built from material I have around, I started to solder the frame for the fence which surrounds Dan's Oil.

The brick building on the second photo above will become "Craftman Tools" so more work already waiting.

More progress on Dan's Oil

More progress on Dan's Oil :

First I narrowed the driveway to match the entrance width.

Further I finished the chainlink fence and started to scratch-built a pump house.

And a close up of the fence.

That really is nice work. I particularly like that fence you built for Dan's Oil. It wasn't until I noticed at the bottom of the last post that you are modeling in N scale......are you kidding me? Wow! Now I'm even more impressed.

Chain-link fence

Paul :

The posts are 0.5 mm copper wire, upper and lower bracing are 0.2 mm nickel silver wire, soldered together on a printed out template. The fence itself is a ribbon, sprayed black.

More progress this

More progress this weekend.

All structures painted and glued in place.

Added piping to and from the tanks, two unloading pipes track side and finished the wooden fence on the east side of the area.

But let the photos speak

Still need to add some minor detailing parts.

Great modeling

That is extremely cool how you mounted the fence for soldering.   I assume you used the needlenose to hold and weight the vertical while you soldered?   Interesting technique for any scale.

Within the last week I

Within the last week I managed to complete the scene at Dan's Oil.

Now focus went on to the engine shop area which is currently under some major track re-alignment.

I removed one TT access track and a RIP tack on the far east end of the yard. As both made usage of the runaround track of the yard difficult.

Initially I wanted to use the RIP track as a caboose storage but that didn't work as it could only be accessed against the normal direction of work on the yard.

I will now add a new track adjacent to the runaround for caboose storage and as a escape for engines.

For the engine shop I relocated the engine shed across the turntable and added a second fueling track which will allow straight access to the shed across the TT.

For more switching fun and realism I will add a supply track next to the fueling track. But I am not quite shure on that at the moment.

Here are some aerial shots :

Overview over the scene

Details on the engine shop. Top most track could be the supply track for sand and diesel. The wood engine shed will be replaced by some metal one. Maybe a scratch built.

The east end with the "new" adjacent track for caboose or engine escape or whatever.
