This update covers Brake Rigging on the under frame.
First up, Tichy provides a template to cut .010 wire for the brake lines. The wire is provided in the kit.

They have you cut the wire between the two bends in order to fit it through the fish belly frames. Looking at the clearance, you might be able to work it through without cutting. I’ll have to try it on the next kit.

Next up installing the brake cylinder and it’s mount. I messed up here by not installing these aligned correctly with the lever slot in the fish belly frame. So now the line lever is at an angle, instead of being parallel, as it should.

Lever installed.

This little thing is the “Branch Line”.

And it connects to the cylinder dirt collector and then to the brake line. Oh what fun this was.

Lever rods cut from .010 wire and installed.

Weight installed on top.

A little paint touch up on the under frame. With everything black hard to see any detail.

I figured it would be easier access, to weather it now. I used colors rusty pipe at first, dry brushing it on. Then a mix of rusty pipe and raw sienna on the components and frame members, and now the detail show up a bit better.

Thats it for this part. Next time back to working the car body.
Thanks for following…

Brake Line

I've built one of these kits a while back. The reason the brake line is in two pieces at the center sill is that it is nigh on impossible to fish the line through the cross members attached to the underframe then cross over thru the fishbelly and then go thru the cross members on the other side. without loosing your sanity. Maybe if you held off gluing down the cross members until you had the wire brakeline installed you could get away with one piece of wire  but why go to all the trouble. If your scale mechanical worker finds the break in the brake line, chances are other parts of the brake assembly will also be inoperable too.

Looking good. Keep up the good work. It makes into a nice looking car.

Re Brake Line

Thanks for the info, know what you mean on struggling to fish it through. This morning I was trying to tackle assembly of the hatch covers. I figured I'd try the open position and had loads of fun trying to put the latch bars in place. They flipped every way but the way I wanted. Stuck to my fingers and every other thing. But I've learned from past experience as patient as I am it's time to leave it alone and come back later. LOL

re: Tichy Reefer Part 5 Brake Line

I recently used some Plastruct round shape about the same diameter as the Tichy supplied wire. It was easily threaded through the center sill on a Tichy USRA box car kit and bent after threading with a needle nose pliars.
