Construction work ground to a halt in Tucson, AZ tonight after crews digging new utility line trenches happened across traces from prior settlements.  A team of resident researchers applied what they know to the ruins, identifying the structure as no older than 1975 but no newer than 1993 when prior construction covered this site.  Engineers and archealogists are now working with construction officials to see the scene properly excavated and hopefuly removed for preservation while keeping site preparation on schedule.

Funny

I'm reminded of a HO layout I saw many years ago where they had a scale archeological dig, and they were digging up a NYC Hudson, if you could recognize what little was sticking above the dirt level...

The scene has been fully excavated, the foreman on the site most relieved that the excavation could proceed in a manner that would allow hom to meet his deadlines.  Upon removal of the overburden, Archeologists discovered the current route was once thrice what it is now, carrying three routes and not just the one.

This route was found to continue through the next two sections, the remains showing two abandoned routes under the overburden.  Almost as soon as this area was surveyed and the report concluded, the ruins were demolished.

"If we had to wait for them to come in here and do a full report every time we found something, we would have been here for the next year."  To which the Superintendent hurriedly added, "If there had been any, that it."
