With 2015 nearing its 4th quarter, I think it's time to take a brake and step back to get an overview of the expansion project I scheduled for 2015.

While starting operation on my layout mid 2014 I found that I had too few industries along the road and drew a plan to get at least some more coal industries in.

So here is the initial situation - temporary in place to have a working layout. I had the space behind the stud wall available. All I had to do was to remove one section of the stud wall and tear-off the bridge section.

In the top left of the picture you can see the already finished backdrop and segment boxes..

More of this coming in the posts below....

cheers,
Mike

All work started with a concept plan.

I created a new town "Sarverville" which incorporates two sidings for runaround/storage, a two track stub-end "yard", a wood-somewhat industry - not sure about it in detail, a team track and a MFG Corp. with two loading/unloading spots.

Sarverville serves mainly as runaround point for trains coming from west and heading to the coal branch. On the coal branch I planed two mid sized coal loaders, each with a capacity of six hopper cars.

The Coal loaders are placed elevated, with a visible "one-turn" helix leading to it.

Mainline is the red one, top left track connects to the existing part of the layout. The Coal loaders are placed top right and middle bottom. The runaround siding can hold up to 12 cars.

The full plan showing Sarverville, with far left the MFG Corp. spur, following down, team track and Wood Dealer.  Aligned left hand side of the mainline : the two track stub-end yard. Each yard track can hold up to 10 cars.

The track escaping the bottom of the plan connects to the already built layout.

The ongoing built of the support benchwork and backdrop/lighting.

Lighting valance, backdrop and segment boxes in place. Still missing : the curved section on the right side.

The missing section in place. Some engines, cars and turnouts in action to get the dimensions right.

More testing underway. The SD35 on the left is sitting on the incline of the coal branch. The first sketched little engine shop is now discarded and replaced by a team track.
