That reads as very interresting. Explaining these monstrous sites and tying it all together with history. Good read so far.
How much of your time goes into 90 pages. It must be measured in years.

steel mill book
I've been photographing steel mills and building steel mill related models on and off since 1996. I also did a paper mill model and a container terminal and pier-side grain elevator. I like heavy industry and railroads.
The steel mill book took about 18 months to do but I tapped into my years of collecting photos and information. I actually had about double the amount of material need for the book, so I am contemplating doing a follow up volume, perhaps as an ebook. Speaking of ebooks, my wife informed me tonight that she would get me an iPad for my birthday, which is next week, though the iPad will not be out for a few more months. That was a nice surprise.
Paper Mill
It was very interesting to start reading through a 2002 issue of MR that I picked up at an NMRA division meet and see this article on creating an N Scale paper mill by someone named Bernie Kempinski....

Looks good
I have a friend who is chomping at the bit for this book. He is getting ready to add a steel mill to his layout in the next year and your timing was perfect! We all listened to the Tom Wilson interview you helped with on MRC when we drove down to the Springfield show.
I am looking forward to our op sessions when he gets that bad larry built..

Yes, and it was a hoot.
Yes, Tom's layout is a great example of the operational possibilities you get with a model steel mill. It gets a detailed description in the book. Now that I operated his layout, I can attest that is is all true! :)
Book is almost ready
I just heard from Kalmbach that the book is almost ready. I may see it within the week.
I look forward to it
Kalmbach even sent me one of their netvertisements about pre-ordering the book.

Makes me want to go spark up
Makes me want to go spark up the Arc Welder and melt some steel. This Book is going to really have a great impact on Model Railroad Steel industry modeling and Mods. I already can see ahead as Roundhouse and others capitalize on this and bring back their Hot cars.
Beautiful preview.

does it really work?
This reminds me of a common question I get from some of my non-model RR neighbors. When they see the model blast furnace in my basement, and after asking questions about the various componenets, frequently someone will ask, "Does it really work?"
They usually are disappointed with the answer.
