I need about 2 dozen tires as mentioned in the header, the real skinny old school type, for an old tire store I'm building. Curious as to whether anyone has already done these, and can give me some tips, or found them commercially?

Similar to the photo, but those are 1/24 scale, and more modern.

My plan A is to buy various size O-rings, and try wrapping them with tape, then painting them that light brown paper color, but I'd like to hear any suggestions you guys might have.
Thanks in advance

I think the o rings would

I think the o rings would work great. As fort he paper wrap, how about using dental floss tape? I'm looking at a piece now that is about 1/20" wide, very thin but strong. Oral-B Satinfloss.

What scale?

Why not just paint them a tan color and give an uneven wash or draw the "wrap" lines with black, grey or brown pencil?  Should work for a smaller scale.

Sorry Dave, HO scale

That's probably a heckuva lot easier, but first I wanna go for that crinkly appearance of an actual tire wrap, these will be right up front on the model

And the Music Goes Round and Round...

I just had a thought...what about an old cassette tape to use as a wrap.   It's fairly strong stuff, and I know from years ago experience, it will hold a "crinkle" if it gets one.  And, it's already brown in color.  That may be a bit dark to start, but a light airbrushing with a tan will lend the dark brown to give the "crinkles" depth.

Yeah, for HO I'd probably try painting on the wrap texture using gesso, mod podge or something similar. An artist brush would probably create scale sized paper ridges. I remember seeing some wrapped tires when I was a kid and IIRC they had colored manufacturer's labels wrapped around them at one spot which might be a nice touch........DaveB
