Since moving into our house last fall, we have yet to open all of our boxes.  Some of these boxes have been moved at least twice without being opened.  Most of these are stored in our spare room but as it's being turned into a nursery, they need to be dealt with one way or another.   Being as this weekend was about 1,500 degrees (celcius), we took refuge in our air conditioned oasis to do productive indoor things.

One of these boxes produced some long-forgotten items; an Atlas CP GP38, a Tichy drop-bottom gondola kit and an 8-axle depressed centre pewter flat car kit from a company called, wait for it...N-Scale Kits.  My guess is that these were bought around 2007 or so and got shoved into a random box during a move, right around the time I was inactive in the hobby for a couple of years.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the geep or the gondola kit (it's a composite gondola from the early 20th century), but the 8-axle flatcar is something I bought because it's a car  that's made occasional appearances on the BCRY carrying transformer loads.  Given my renewed focus on this shortline, I decided to give it a go and assemble it.

It went together fairly well, though the details are a bit crude and one of the brake wheels is mangled.  Apparently the current version of this kit now has etched-brass stirrups, but I'm not too worried about it.  I then primed it and gave it a go with some cheap spray paint which is a decent match for Kasgro red.  I went glossy for the eventual decals, which I'll probably have to get custom-made as it doesn't look like any were produced for this company.  I put on some Micro Trains 1036 and 1037 trucks and blasted them with grey automotive primer. I'll have to cut the couplers off of the trucks and body-mount them though, as the car doesn't sit quite right or turn very well.  As for the transformer load, I'll probably scratch build it or give Shapways a shot.

So for the time being, as is Kasgro's slogan, here she sits, Red 'n Ready.
