Getting It To Post

Steelcutter,

Is this what you're trying to do?

What I did was follow the link to the YouTube website and then copy the full URL there.  Then I pasted it here in this post.

Apparently, the video will only embed if the URL starts with youtube.com, not youtu.be.

Thanks,
Damin.

Trolley pole query...

I do like the look and feel of a well-done traction layout. However, what method do you use for mounting the poles that hold your overhead? Do you just stick them into the roadbed, do you layer material and then stick them through, or is there some kind of special mounting end on the ends of those poles? I'm trying to learn how to string overhead for my own layout, and most of the books I have are kind of vague on how exactly to install the poles prior to beginning the wiring. For that matter, what are you using for poles? Looks like 1/4" or 3/16" dowel rod...

Love the little boxcabs! They remind me of the little 4-wheel ones the Hagertowns and Frederick had.

setting trolley poles

My layout is o-scale most of my trolley poles are 1/4 inch dowels I drill holes through the homesote and plywood subroadbed. Trolley polls were set On 100 Ft centers on tangent track And 75ft on curves.

Thanks Joe I enjoy hand laying track and building buildings and scenery. I enjoy your wonderful work on the Iowa Interstate. If you ever get to northeast Iowa look me up we can do some switching under wire

Nice traction layout Damin!

I like this kind of layout: long running, a lot of switching possibilities.

Well done!

Thank you to share

If the roadbed is wood or other strong enough material you can just drill a hole and glue in the poles. Foam might require a bit more care, perhaps drill a larger hole and glue in a piece of dowel then drill a small hole in it. For my O scale trolley layout I used welding rod for poles and phosphor bronze wire from Clover House  for the overhead wire. The overhead wire is interesting to build and look at but it gets in the way of operations and track maintenance so my next layout went back to conventional railroading.......DaveB
