I have been going through bins of HO model trains that I have been storing for 30+ years.  Included in the bins are a bunch of German/Austrian trains that my dad got when he was stationed in Germany in the mid-1950s -  locomotives, freight cars and passenger cars, mostly Kleinbahn brand, but some Fleischmann and Marklin.

I took pictures of everything and sent it to Trainz.com and talked to Carlie there - they say they will look at them and give me a sense of what they might be worth and if they can sell them.

Has anyone had any experience with selling items through Trainz.com?

Anybody have experience with 1950s German/Austrian models that might know their value and the best way to sell them?

I have brought them with me through countless moves over the past 3 decades and now is probably the time to sell them.

Never sold on there, but from

Never sold on there, but from experience in other areas, my advice would be to put them on Ebay. Do some research and find out how much it will be to mail them to Europe (really) and advertise them as shippable to Europe.... I used to sell rare Cold War Militaria on ebay, and all the crazy high bids came from overseas.

Something as niche as 1950s German trains, might be a hard sell Stateside but European collectors might eat it up.

Having said that, most larger German train stores have a "Second Hand" section, and just about every German flea market (normal flea markets) have model trains that look like from the 50s and 60, so in the end they might not be worth the bother.

One German shop I know that has the stuff online-

Thanks for the tip

I will take a look at the link and do other searches to see what value the engines and cars may have.  I never thought of eBay and shipping to Europe, but will have to see if that's a possibility.
