I have run across a very interesting line of couplers from a Japanese manufacturer IMON.  Here is their website:   http://www.imon.co.jp/MODELS/GOODS175.MBR/IMCOUPLER.  I'm wondering:

  • If anyone has used them (can you provide some results)?
  • Whether they are available anywhere in the USA?
  • How does one uncouple them - there doesn't appear to be any way except lifting one car above the other?

After reviewing the material on the website, it appears these couplers have a number of interesting features:

  • They expand in curves
  • Able to engage KADEE couplers
  • Relatively prototype appearance
  • Several versions (131 and 231) appear like US "Tightlock" coupler from the 1950's, with the little tongue and receptacle that would prevent vertical disengagement
  • There appears to be a version that can conduct electricity between cars (I'm not sure about this one - I ran across this on one of the sites pages but can't find it again now).

Any information you can provide on these would be appreciated.
