 In the Dream and Design Forum, I created a message on Alternate Connection designs, uploaded pictures to MRH and linked them into the message.  Now they aren't showing, although when I edit it it shows they are there.

Wassup?

I'm not seeing

many photos.  In some threads, even ones I've previously visited, there may be one or two or none at all.

We can't even begin to debug a problem until we know what kind of device and which browser you're using. Can you please tell us?

well...

I know I saw those images before also. ( http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/22013)

Looking at the source:

< a href=" /sites/model-railroad-hobbyist.com/files/users/dave1905/Yard1.jpg" class=" thickbox"> < img alt="" src=" /sites/model-railroad-hobbyist.com/files/resize/users/dave1905/Yard1-600x206.jpg"
style=" height: 206px; width: 600px" width=" 600" height=" 206" /< /a

The original image is there, but the resized version gives a 404.

Original:

Resized:

   < < there should be an image here.

So something ate your alternate image, or the script that processes resized images is broken.

Yep, has to do with resizing images

Yep, looks like it has to do with resized-on-the-fly images. Sometimes they break, not sure why. If you want to make sure they don't break, you can always resize them properly in advance and then upload them. Big images resized down waste bandwidth, so it's a good practice to make them the right size if you can.

I'm now seeing this too...

Joe,

I thought I'd check this too, and went and looked at my blog posts.  The entire blog list is not showing the photos.

using and iPhone6+ though Safari.

Update:  And when I posted this response my signature photo isn't showing either...

Jas...

Moderator note: When we edited your signature image resize dimensions slightly as Joe suggests below, your signature image came back ...

Similar issue here

Some photos will show on my Ipad but not on my Imac and vice versa.  Both quite new and both using Safari.

To fix it ...

To fix your posts where images are not showing up, edit the image and change the width dimension slightly and then save again. Presto, the image will be back.

Apparently, if you have resized the image at all, the image handler on this site doesn't like a recent update our server hosting firm has made so the image render dies. Our host provider does minor updates all the time and once in a while there's some side effects.

By editing the resize dimensions it does something to the image and makes it render properly again.

Better is to resize the image properly so you don't need to resize it on-the-fly. Resizing on the fly takes extra bandwidth so making the image the right size in the first place helps the threads come up faster.
