Hello all. My name is Chris and I'm out in the Charleston, SC area. I've always been a train enthusiast in HO scale but never really did more than set up an oval track once in a while to pass the time. My grandson will be 4 this year on September 11 and I was thinking of doing a train table that he and I could enjoy now and later when his little brother gets older. For now he enjoys his Thomas The Tank Engine wood set, but I'm sure he'll get a kick out of one that he doesn't have to push. I like HO scale since that is all I've ever ran, but I might try O and see if I can fine a deal on a classic Lionel Texas Special, being that is where I am from. I'm also planning to put together a nice Christmas train in either scale for my step mother out in TX. She's always wanted one to go around the tree, just never invested in one. I'm also going to run a HO scale Army train around the top of the wall in my garage/shop. It will have cars representing or carrying equipment I've used or served on in my 25 years of service. Self-propelled howitzers, certain trucks, etc. Getting close to retirement, gotta find something relaxing to do. Also working on collecting beer rail cars for the wet bar. Got a classic Miller High Life now, and watching about 10 others on ebay.

Take care,

Chris

Hi Chris

Welcome to the forum. Lots of nice people in here and it's time well spent when you are looking for answers or just inspiration now and then.

Sounds like you've got some excellent plans to help you spend your retirement time constructively. I've re-joined the hobby recently as I'm slowly transitioning into retirement and it really has been a joy.

Hope to see you around,

Rick

Welcome aboard

Glad you found this site. This is the place to be for model railroading - all scales. I have found this forum to be the most friendly and helpful. 1:1 railfanning occurs here as well.

If you have not yet downloaded any of the magazines or just the latest, I suggest you also look at the back issues - they are all available.

One of the members here, Bill Brillinger, has compiled a table of contents (TOC) for all issues that you may find helpful.

Rod Goodwins index can be found from the dropdown menu "Magazine" that is also useful and there is an MRH exclusive Google search function selectable in the upper right corner of the page to help find one or more posts by content.
