I was going to make a removable diorama for my Marion shovel, but in the end I realized I could not build what I wanted without damaging my open pit too much. I did modify my open pit and lay some track and scenic a small area so the Marion has a home. I still plan on making a diorama in a small display case, but that will be another project.

In the end here is where the shovel will sit on my layout.

I used the rail from some N-scale track I bought. It is on non- ballasted track representing track just set there as the pit advances.

Here are the three pieces of equipment I have blogged about the most over the last year or so. It is time to add some details back on to #98 and #99 such as air hose and end steps. A few extra details for the Marion shovel are planned as well.

Until Next Time.

Great job

Looking forward to next video and blog posts. What mineral is your mining operation hauling?

Terrific!

Looking at your progress and finished work is inspiring - have to look in my scrap box and put my idea cap on. Great work.

Copper and Zinc

All of my scratch built models are based on the Flin Flon area mines. They are all copper and zinc deposits. Thus my ore is copper and zinc rich massive sulphides. However, with a little imagineering, it could be any ore. The end of the pit where the 4160 sits is in the sulphide ore as defined by all the Reds and orange colors. The other end is grey which could be used as crushed stone for other needs.

Use the real thing?

You have ample supply of the real thing available, are you going to use some run of mine material to represent the massive sulphides?  You could even get the smell of the real thing.  Mmmm, sulphur...

I really like how that shovel turned out, it definitely captures the look of the real thing.  We should plan to head out to Marie Lake and prove or disprove if one of the Marion's was buried out there.
