The CCW is up and running again in it's new home. I have finished laying all the new track work that was needed to connect my modules in the new railroad room. The overhead is up and working. I now have interchanges at both ends of the railroad. I am posting this from my phone and get the photos to show inline, sorry.

CCW up and running again

So nice to see your work.  I am also a large scale traction modeler.  I have a portable modular street car layout in 1:24 scale that I may be bringing to the National in Portland this year.  I will try to post some pictures on this web site if I can just master the technology.  Ray

Congratulations

Congrats on your rebuild!  Your layout looks great.  Always fun to see other Iowa prototypes.

By the way, someone shared a YouTube video of a CCW fan trip on the Proto-Layouts list a couple weeks ago, making me think of you and your layout.  You've probably already see it, but just in case...

Pete, I have a question about

Pete, I have a question about Oakwood, was there any other businesses or points of interest there besides the elevator? I live a few country blocks away and went there with my grandfather because of his ability to point out every site, who lived where, and road crossings. I found about a few pictures taken in Oakwood and stood in the same spots and took pictures where a photographer or railfan would of 50+ years ago and snapped away and took other pictures that I thought would be important for modeling puposes. I believe I might have spotted two catenary poles so I took pictures of those too before they rotted away. Elevator is surprisingly standing so I took pictures because I plan on kitbashing one I already have. There's a few houses in Oakwood still but they look pretty modern so they were not picture worthy.

Oakwood

Cody, there was a general store and stockyard that shipped out hogs. There was a small depot located between the tracks just west of the elevator. I have never seen a photo of it but I made a drawing of it from distributions from old employees and the descsription in the 1929 audit. This had the dimensions and description of the building materials. Pete

Thanks,

thanks

I had a picture looking northeast down the tracks towards elevator and one of a siding I believe. I stood on road to recreate it. I Didn't know about little hog yard or general store though. I'm making an around the room layout of the Charley Western in ho scale in the old hog house shed on our farm- (once roof is tinned up, just finished insulating walls). I will start on bench work. I plan on having the Roseville store and church on backdrop looking north on hwy 14, but what was the name of that old lumberyard that was there on the way to Marble Rock?

lumberyard

Volha lumbered, I am not of the spelling, it was owned by two brothers one of which lived on the farm on the east side of the road just south of the lumberyard. There also was a spur east of the crossing on the north side of the track. It was used to move cement and limestone for the paving of hwy 14. This was pulled up and moved to the lumberyard location. question for Pete -street running in Charles City?

I would also like to have some street running in Charles City on my layout, is there any maps of the town before tracks were torn up from the streets? I have a map on Charles City I acquired from 1963 and a Floyd county transportation map from 1957, but the Charles City map from '63 only shows the loop and another track that goes into town, but just ends after venturing into town for only two blocks. Which I get because of passenger service ending in 1952, but I don't know where I can get a pre 1952 map of Charles City. I want to include track by Central Park and running through Main Street but I don't know anywhere else the line went through the town and I am trying to get the track plan as close as I can get it for better operation and historical accuracy. I figured your probably the best source of information on the CCW that can help me with this.
