Back in the day it was common to see DM&IR SD-9's on the Soo Line during the winter months. I captured this moment in time at my HO scale Shoreham sand tower. Prototype inspiration was this B&W shot I took in 1978.DSC_2015.JPG DSC_2018.JPG DSC_2020.JPG

Nice work!

Great job on those SD9's, Bob- they look fantastic! Bob Helm's book on the Clinchfield has several color shots of DM&IR SD18's that were leased out to that road during the winter in the late 1970's. The SD9's and SD18's were almost identical in appearance and you've really captured the look of those units. Tom Patterson

Great Work Bob

Bob,

I have followed your fantastic prototype modeling for years.  It has always been an inspiration to up my game. CPR, like its subsidiary Soo, leased units in the winter from the iron ore and steel roads, namely the DM&IR, B&LE and LS&I in the 1960's and 1970's.  Here are leased B&LE and LS&I units, along with BAR & Peco, at St. Luc Yard on my CPR Montreal Terminals Division. The units still need to be weathered.  I would love to see more of your Soo Line on MRH.

Outstanding

Outstanding work as usual Bob!  Your modeling has been a real guiding force for me for as long as I've known about your layout.  Honestly, I think my 1995 visit to your place pretty much set the tone for my modeling since then.

Gotta love that prototype photo too!  Nothing says "1970s" like a billboard advertising a new disco!

And I'm with Ian, I'd love to see a feature on your layout in MRH.
