Not a lot happening lately on the railroad, but a few things. The picture below is the "after" shot of my ceiling repair from the water damage.  The dummy return air vent covers an opening in the drywall that I purposely left open for future leaks (an optimist?) Although my drywall mud work isn't very good, it will pass the casual glance test. Besides, who should be looking at the ceiling anyway..... look at the railroad!

The picture below is the "before" shot of the water damaged area (washer leak from the floor above) just before starting the repairs.

Bash-0-mania - I'm working on kit bashing a DPM building, #10400. This is my first serious attempt at kit bashing and so far, so good. I'm changing the building from a 3-story to a 5-story, along with replacing the overhead door with a regular door and cutting down the depth of the building. I've been hand sawing the pieces and have put the project on hold until my new Proxxon FKS mini power table saw arrives. Of course, all of the cracks / joints will be filled with putty before painting.  The project is taking some time because besides hand cutting the pieces, I've been documenting the project with pictures as I progress.  This building will be just behind the existing downtown Hoovertown.  The row of buildings behind Hoovertown will be taller to help lead the eye up the the mountain area.

Looks pretty good actually.

Looks pretty good actually.  A slight amount more feathering on the edges would have hidden it completed likely.  Probably the hard edge of the "crack" is what is showing though.  did ya sand it down a bit before putting the repairs in place?  Also the register is a good approach to hiding the hole, I have a hole in the ceiling in the garage that I need to patch up still, its about 2x3ft or so where we had to replace the drain in the shower upstairs.  Thankfully this is nowhere near where the layout is going to be and the only water source near there is outside about 25ft away (water supply ditch for the county).

Is that plastic piece a sprinkler cover?

Bits & Pieces

Mike,

I completely stink at drywall work.  I did smooth the mud using a wet sponge, as I didn't want to create dust.  It's hard to get as smooth a joint not using a sanding block.  The round plate is a cover on a electrical box for future lighting that is on a seperate switch.  I plan on installing blue lights on this circuit for "night" lighting and running in the dark.  I'm glad to hear that your water sources are far from the layout area - a good thing!
