If you're not the one getting money, it's not an ad

Aaron:

If you're not the one who stands to benefit financially from the post, then it's not an ad. Modelers are encouraged to post any an all "good deal" links they think might be a good "heads up" to their fellow modelers!

That's one of the benefits of a model railroading community on the web, no?

Somebody should explain this notion to the big K.  I think they missed the point sometime in the distant past.[wink]

I rushed off to see about the trees, only to find out I have to phone them to order...frankly, it's less hassle to make my own trees.  Thanks for the heads up, but MRC needs to get with the program and offer this stuff through an online store that takes PayPal!

MRC will see the responses

It cannot be a bad thing for MRH if MRC corp. happens to see that the majority of the responses to their free promotion come through the MRH website.  I for one have already downloaded their pdf FAX form, and may just try the new product being promoted.

I just ordered mine. . .

I ordered the 3" oak tree.  I also mentioned that I saw the add through the MRH website.

Like Slide

Like Slide, I just ordered mine on the phone (I went with Birch, and got another package, as together that makes them just $7.5 each with no shipping charge), and the nice lady on  the phone seemed to very carefully write down Model Railroad Hobbyist.

Thanks for the heads up!

I got mine

I ordered a "free pine tree set" and another pine tree and oak set.  Even though they are labeled HO, my handy dandy ruler tells me they will be just fine for n scale work.

Joe, with all the new, and IMHO vastly improved, scenery products on the market, do you think MRH can work some reviews/comparison in for future issues?

Behind the times...

Seems like MRC is really behind the times.  I thought everybody had toll free numbers now!  Guess not.

I'd be interested to find out if MRC will give that same deal to someone in Canada or if they will only ship to US addresses with this promo?  If I didn't have to pay for the call to find out I might even take the time to call them, as much as I hate using the infernal telephone!  Assuming they would ship the trees to Canada for $5, by the time I pay for the long distance charges while I am on hold and pay the $5 shipping,  I'm not sure the trees would be that great of a deal anymore.  Maybe a bit cheaper than just buying them outright but not much I am thinking.

If MRC is taking any notice of this discussion, I hope it prompts them to get a toll free number!

JTT Trees

If I'm not mistaken, Charlie and I met the JTT folks in Anaheim a year and a half ago. Nice people, excellent looking scenery products... and unfortunately not the greatest English skills.

I'm glad they've found a distributor in the US that can handle that part for them - and also glad that MRC is branching out  (pun not intended) from just the stuff you put electrons through.

I haven't seen the trees but,

I haven't seen the trees but, by any chance are they constructed from old out dated MRC AC power cords that have been stripped and remade into trees?

I ordered mine, too!

Called when I first saw this thread, and never did get through.  I called again this morning, and ordered 3 sets of the oak trees, for a little more than $20.  And had a wonderfully lively conversation with the fellow who took my order.  I mentioned hearing about in on MRH, and we talked about MRC sound decoders (the engineering and quality problems with them and the way MRC markets them) and DCC systems (problems, again, with engineering and marketing).  Then we talked about RC models (cars, boats, and planes), and how when we have the time for a hobby, it's because we're not working, and when we have the money for a hobby because we're working, we don't have the time...  Maybe MRC, which is BIG in the radio control area, might work on a system for RC train controls.

Ordered mine today

I figured what the heck?  They look nice and I might as well.  Shipping to Canada was a bit more, but thought I'd give it a shot and ordered the two extra packages at 30% off to make it more worth it.  But, darn it, I forgot to mention MRH on the phone.  It always seems to take longer providing my address to people:

"And what city do you live in?"

"Saskatoon"

"I'm going to need a little help with that one."

"S-A-S-K-A-T-O-O-N"

"OK, and which state?"

"Saskatchewan"

"Oh, my"

"Just put 'SK' for an abbreviation."

And then I just forgot to mention MRH.  I feel bad about that.  Might have to email them now.

I feel your pain... lol

I'm being stubborn and not ordering any.  If I didn't have to waste time on the phone and pay the resulting long distance charges, (assume they are not open evenings and weekends) I would have ordered some already.  I'd sooner sit down with the missus and make trees than spend time on that infernal telephone!  Just how I feel about it is all.

Birch Trees

I received mine tonight from MRC. I've posted up the results on my chainsaw post.

I have mixed thoughts on them, the foliage seems nice, and the shape good. The cost of these does seem high (not this deal, mind you) as compared to what you can do with Super Trees armatures.

Just got my trees. . .

Nice trees.  They are manufactured in Vietnam.  (I thought they would be made in China).
