Hi Guys,
A few years ago, I purchased an old (1989 run - the one with plastic valve gear) Bachmann Porter 0-4-0 tank at Auction.

Anyway, I finally got around to getting around to looking at what needs to be done to get the engine running again, and I pulled it apart to get it working only to find the gear that normally fits on the trailing axle is missing, and thus no way to transfer power from the motor and idler gear to the wheels.

Does anyone have a stuffed and mounted model that they could pillage for a gear, or point me in the direction of a replacement?

I generally work in HO, so have no idea where to start to look for replacements. Bachmann's spare parts website only sells replacement gearbox/motor assemblies for the newer versions.

I'd like to get this little old girl back into traffic, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Pete.

Dear Pete,

Given no other leads, I'd probably take such a hunt to http://www.mylargescale.com/

Check North West Short Line

NWSL makes several replacement gears for Large Scale Bachmann engines. Their standard LS replacement gears can be found on page 4-34 of the catalog. Although a replacement gear for the Porter is not listed, I would give them a call (phone (406) 375-7555). One of the listed gears may work, or they may have made custom gears for the locomotive which are not listed. The can be a might expensive, but I have saved several engines with their gears.

I presume you're talking about G113X-00D01?

It's a little pricey in this direction, but you can get the whole drivetrain for $45.

Unfortunatley not. The

Unfortunatley not. The drawings you provided are for the 'new' version with the moved sand domes, turbo generator just behind the stack and LED lighting.

The version I'm trying to repair is the original version from around 1989 (product number 91041).

It may be easier to rebuild the drive train with the new drive [cutting the old model] than simply getting a new gear.

If you can get a geared axle, well, that would work!
