Binders

Did the railroads always use ratchet load binders?  I am more familiar with lever load binders.

Nice looking chains.

Seperate rigging bits, length per sprue?

Dear Bill,

Any chance of a sprue of mixed seperate D-shackles, hooks, and tensioners/binders,
without the "chain" sections?

Would be awesome for detailing trucks and RR cars, loading sites, etc,
and would open up the details to be used with B.I.S. 40-lpi scale chain and similar...

Happy Modelling,

PS for marketing, might be helpful to note the "length of chain" per sprue,
I calc around 27" (actual inches), or around 190-195 HO scale feet worth?

I'm sure I've seen both types in use.

These sets are based on the ones seen in this photo:

@ Prof

Thanks for your suggestions Prof.

Regarding the separate details, tell me more.  Perhaps you can point me to some pictures of the accessory items you'd like to see?

The Prof...

I think the prof was asking if you would consider a set of just hooks, shackles and load binders without the chains so that one could use the pieces for scenic details and in conjunction with 'actual' chain not laser cut chain.

Speaking of chain, the finest chain I have found at clover house scales out to have links just over 1" in diameter and 5" long.  That is some BIG chain. Like Queen Mary anchor chain!  Is there anything closer to HO scale size load chains?

Bill, if we are talking scale size, where would the laser cut chains fall?

Funny thing about the load binders.  I guess I have never noticed the ratchet style.  At first I was asking my wife, why did Bill leave all the handles open on the load binders?

I understood that - but give me pictures of more details you would like to see included such a set.

I'll get back to you about the sizing later.

I think the prof was just after individual shackles, hooks and load binders for detailing and for use with Builders In Scale chain @40 links per inch.  I suppose you could make both types of load binder also?

I can see where the shackles and hooks would go great with the B.I.S. chain, providing the scale size is somewhere close to HO.

Dimensions

The 'chain' is 40 'links' per inch, That is 20 'holes' showing from the top with 20 'sides' between them. if that makes sense?

The width across the chain is ~ .035" or about .84mm

I can probably push it finer yet, but I am afraid it will become too flimsy.

Dimensions

The chains dimensions seem like they pretty well rival anything I have seen for HO scale.  I doubt you have to make it finer than it is.

Thanks Bill,

All hardware, little/no chain

Dear Bill, Kevin,

Bill, I agree, your chain looks great as-is, it's just the inherrent visual nature of flat etches/cuts that make me look to integrate BiS chain (that, and the fact that I regularly stock up on BiS chain for such scale-rigging missions... ).

Bill, check your PDC email...

All Hardware

Dear John, Bill, (I think it's John, aka Prof)

I tend to agree.  The BIS chain has caught my attention also but Bills hardware is what is currently missing!
