I had some time to take a few photos of the layout recently, here is one of my favorites:

And to all, a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

PS - if you look closely in the sky above the Porter, you can see the constellation Orion rising in the east.

Outstanding Modelling

Verne, your work has impressed me since I first signed onto MRH. You have a gift, Sir, and I thank you for sharing that gift with all of us.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Wow

Hi Verne,

This is the first time I've seen Luminaria modeled-- they bring back great memories. Very Nice!

Do you leave this scene on your layout all year round, or is this a special module?

Thanks for sharing this.

Best Regards and Merry Christmas,

Geoff Bunza

All I can say is ....

WoW!!!  Just wow.  I too have been mesmerized by your layout's beauty and at the same time simplicity.  You should use that photo of Orion and the Moon for your personalized Christmas card, if you haven't considered it on your own.

Again ....

WoW!!!!

Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas

Updated photos of the new Frijolene plant

Today I got a rare treat, some modeling time to add details to the 'new' Frijolene plant in San Lorenzo.

mage0957.jpg The plant is a modest facility, located between the station and village. From the sheen its jacket, that is a brand new boiler (the previous plant exploded and took out the old boiler). In the background, you can see laborers working at the coke plant.

mage0958.jpg A railroad employee exchanges a friendly 'hola' with Rodrigo, an employee at the plant.

mage0959.jpg Rodrigo is enjoying a plate of frijoles before his shift at the plant. Frijolene employees aren't required to eat beans, but it does sort of make sense to do so.

The knotholes in the plant siding were burned with a fine-tipped soldering iron. Figures are from Arttista and Revell. The boiler is a Western Scale Models kit, and the tank and base are resin castings from Sonora Scale Models. There's no stove or smokejack in the plant building - a lesson learned the hard way.

Kinda close...

Verne,

Beautiful work!  Just thinking it is kinda close to the coke ovens.  It hope vapors don't escape the new plant.  It could be quite an explosive experience besides smelly.
