.... a Bachmann Plus GP40 lcoc.

I am afraid to turn to brute force, as what few details the loco is born with should stay there...

I need her open for lubrication and decoder install...

Thank you for your time

Do yourself a favor and join the Bachmann forums. There are forums for different scales and Bachmann reps there also.

You can find CV list, product diagrams, etc.

decoder

Don't use a Bachmann decoder. Last I knew, they are low end Lenz decoders for non sound.

NCE sells the Bach-DSL non sound decoder with LED's to replace the onboard decoder. Designed by NCE specially for the Bachmann diesels.

If you want sound, the SoundTraxx website has a decoder and speaker suggestion.

On the bottom of the loco, see if you need to remove the couplers( the should be held on with a screw). If there is a screw or screws holding the fuel tank cover on remove those. There should be a screw on each side you need to remoce. The shell should then come off. You may have to wiggle it a bit.  Joe

A quote from the Bachmann link

A quote from the Bachmann link I provided.

Quote:

Pry the fuel tank off and you will find 4 screws underneath, remove them and pull the shell straight up.

The only ones I know of Rich that you have to remove the couplers are the SD's unless the older versions of GP's were different.

Thankyou gentlemen,   The

Thankyou gentlemen,

The fuel tank is indeed a lid for 2 screws hidden underneath.

Easy as pie when you know how!

Martin

PS: I plan to throw a Soundtraxx in there
