Railroad-line forum down for a while

When I try to go to the forum I get:

Whoa... The Railroad Line Forum is in the shop building steam !!

We will be back ASAP ! !

Joe

It's been this way for a while now, a couple of weeks.  Does anyone have an idea what is going on?

Regards, Vic B.

Railroad Lines Forum

I talked to one of my modeler friends on the Railroad Line forum. He says they are updating new forum software and are not sure all of what is on the server will transport over easily.

That sounds familiar...

R_L Forums

That's where most of my link n' pin/TOC19 related chit chat and modeling discussions take place. Most of us that are active there have long "update' threads. All of those threads (well, except mine!) contain very useful information. It would be a shame for that to all be lost.

Very Good Material/Discussions

I don't go on there often these days, but you are correct there is some VERY good material/discussions over there by some very serious modelers.

Their software does take some getting use to, and it will be interesting to see what changes are made. I hope it doesn't delete a lot of that former material and photos. Unlike some folks on this forum I do find a lot of useful info in older discussions.

NOTE: just like the older issues of Model RR magazine,...lots of good material locked up in history

Any Update?

Seeing as the Railroad Line Forums are still down, I wonder if there is any update on the status of the forum site?

Bernd? Anyone?

I check in a couple times a day and now I get a cannot connect to server message error. I know there are quite a few of us who visit both here and there. I guess we just bide our time.

Lots 'O forums...

A local guy I know well kept telling me what a good place it was and I got on there eventually. While there are some really good modelers there, the structure of the forum wasn't as user-friendly as this one is., nor most others.

I have tried to limit myself to how many forums I'm on as it can feel like work.

@ Andre & others

I haven't heard anything. I check in everyday. I'll post if and when I hear something. Wish I had the e-mail addresses of some of the admins now.

I hope,

I hope that we have not lost RR-lines too. I'll miss the help and the comradery. I have all my photos on multiple devices but I don't like the idea of losing the content at all. I know it was hard to use but it did have it's advantages. For one Spell Check! And at least you could go to the last page without scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Often Mentioned

Don't look good'. Never takes this amount of time for a software update'  Considering the site had no sponsors and cost to run it paid by the owner (Joe G) , and with constant complaints regarding out of date software, etc. This was to be expected after 20 years.  The loss of viewing some of the best model railroaders in the hobby will be missed'.  In addition, this was the best forum to learn how to build just about anything related to the hobby in all scales.  Many, many talented modelers that shared their techniques without question'... to inspire others to give it a try'..  Many have disregarded RRLF and went to FB, MRH and other sites.  Times change, and the grass always looks greener on the other side.

The friendships and Camaraderie of the members will surely be missed...

I found some REALLY GOOD

I found some REALLY GOOD material and modelers on that forum. I really hope we don't loose them.

One of the fascinating threads I discovered over there was this fantastic modeling of the Magoun Pier. I documented some of it on several postings on this forum to make folks aware of it,,

Update

My source says (sounds political doesn't it?) that Railroad Lines Forum is having new servers installed and should be back up, Source is not sure when though. There's lots of data to move. Also heard it will be easier to load pictures. So hang in there gang. Takes a while to tear down and replace track to get it to run properly.

Thanks again Bernd!

I do hope your "source" is correct.

Perhaps it's time to set up RR-L for donations to help offset the costs involved? It's my "go to" hang out for my 19th Century RR fetish.

Your Welcome

I hope my source is correct also. I wish I had Bruce's or George's e-mail so I could query them.

Thanks Joe Fugate for allowing these postings and not banning them like they did on the Model Railroader forum.

Isn't that the truth !!..

Their myopic view on this subject is what caused me to abandon that site even while there were some very good members and contributions.

@ Brian

I signed up there a long time ago. I too believe there are a couple of good modelers on there. But the heavy hand they have on subjects has me checking in without signing in to see if there's anything good to view. I have three favorite forums I visit every day and MRH is one of them.

BTW, the owner and his wife also came down with a case of Covid. They are on the mend and hopefully have the forum up and running soon.
