Buildings set in placePB222094.JPG

Gluing in the fillers to bring grade crossing pieces to correct height. The small pieces between the rails are .030 styrene and the more rectangular pieces are .060 thick x 1/4" wide shown by the green pencil, but any width would work as long as the space allows it.PB232095.JPG

Now for the center stripe.

Step #1: Putting down the tape for the center of the road striping. This is 1/16" wide Fine Line tape used in the auto body shops. It is super thin and if put on the correct way it will not let paint bleed under and leaves a very sharp & crisp line when removed.PC032102.JPG

Step #2: Applying the two pieces of 1/4" Fine Line tape to get the outside of the center stripe.PC032103.JPG

I use the rounded end of a 6" steel ruler to press the tape down REALLY tight and this step is important, so as not to get any bleeding of the paint under the tapePC032104.JPG

OK now pull the 1/16" tape up, leaving the center area ready to paint. I also used the 1/16" tape on the rail headsPC032106.JPG

Now tape off the rest of the area to prevent over spray. Again I use the Green Frog Tape to prevent bleeding under. When praying the paint used three or four very light coats less is more in this case.PC032107.JPG

What it should look like after all the tape and paper is removed32108(3).JPG

This is what I use for the templatesPB232100.JPG

This is the Fine Line tape. I get it from "Painter Supply" stores in my area, but any good full service body shop supplier should have itPC032105.JPG

Looks good

Looks good.

I have a few areas to pave soon and was debating about using plaster or styrene.  Seeing how nice yours turned out and how it is a lot cleaner then plaster has made my decision easier.   Thank you for posting.

I think I have a full bottle of oily black,it won't go to waist.

masking

One trick when masking is to add one more coat of the base paint AFTER masking up for the lines.

The extra coat seals any small gaps in the masking.
