How Many P87 modellers out there?
Sat, 2010-01-16 10:44 — trainspotter-usa
Hello All. New guy here.
My name is Ian. I've been a subscriber to MRH since day 1 but am just getting around to partaking of the forums. I've modelled in all kinds of scales in my time from T to Gn15. But right now my current layout building efforts are centred on H0 scale with my 7 day layout which you can read about at http://7daymodelrailroad.blogspot.com/ and a new P87 project as well http://protocrastinator.blogspot.com/
I've signed up at the P87 yahoo group and searched around the internet for other P87 modellers but it seems to me that its a very lonely field to be in. Amongst other things I hope to find other like minded modellers hereabouts to get ideas and encouragement from.
Ian

P:87 Modelers
Not as many on this list, but with good reason.;) Proto:87 modeling is a very impassioned mindset for near scale wheels and trackwork. The differences that can be clearly seen "in the flesh" are almost invisible to a standard video camera that is shooting a whole scene, from a "layout visitor's" viewing distance. You pretty much can't explain or show the advantages of P:87 on video at all. Even though seeing an actual working layout generally blows peoples minds. (John Wright's Federal St. for example).
Even on a non-video oriented list, P:87 modeling is still almost the opposite of making do with what is easily commercially available and quickest to implement. Almost no P:87 specific wheel and track parts are in any hobby shops, and most interested parties are scattered far apart from each other, both in the US and around the World.
So if you are interested, just join up with the specialist groups and go from there.
