I'm new at this. Please help. How do you determine which end of any type of railroad car is the A or B end? This may have been answered already, many times, so would appreciate direction to post.

Thank you,

B Side

The B side of a freight car is where the brakes are at (Break wheel). The opposite will be then the A side.

cars with two brake wheels

If a car has more than one brake wheel, cabooses, heavy duty multi-truck flatcars, well cars, etc, one end will be designated the B end.  Multiple segment cars will have the segments designated with letters.  Segments of a five platform well car would be A, E, D, C, B.  It still has an A and a B end.

Then there is left and right.  When standing on the track (with permission of course) and looking at the brake wheel (B) end, left is on the left and right is on the right.
