To All: A couple of years ago I kitbashed this C&EI RR Caboose using two Bachmann Cabs. The tank pix are not part of series. The kitbash involved using a cupola from one unit and blanking out widows and cutting new ones to get the correct window spacing. The correct handrails were applied on the ends, sides and cupola roof, as well as, a smoke stack with support wires. The stripped handrails are an unusual feature of these cabs. I weighted the car to NMRA specs and installed rollerbearing caboose trucks with metal wheels. The car has coupler cut bars and air hoses on the ends. Decals are from the C&EI Historical Society. Looks great!

Very well done. I really like when people turn "toy-like" models (Tyco or early life like, ect.) into models of great quality like done here. One thing I have noticed is that there is some pretty good molding of details in "Tyco-like" products that paint or weathering can really bring out. With a few modifications like new trucks, coupler pockets, ect you can really make a fine model. Great job and I have to say love the striping on the handrails very top notch.

C&EI Caboose

Your clever work with a Bachmann/Tyco kitbash is motivation to attack my Ann Arbor caboose project.  Thinking along the lines of an Athearn body, Intermountain roof and a Tyco cupola.  Is there anybody out there that has tried such a conversion?  and to what degree of success?  Hints, advice and warnings are all welcome.
