After the fourth drive axle I finally have a winner. Battery is a 1S LiPo out of the contraption pictured below.
 
 
I used my USB port on the computer to charge the battery. The truck ran for over 6 hours on one charge. Next is getting a trailer built for it to haul stuff in.
