I was doing some housecleaning around the workdesk yesterday, and I stumbled across a box stuffed full of pieces to make the old thee-part sprung freight trucks. I'd picked it up at a swap meet last year and forgotten I had it (thinking back, had I pressed the issue at the meet, the seller might have paid me to take the box off his hands...)

At any rate, I now have probably a couple dozen trucks' worth of parts. While I acknowledge that HO scale sprung trucks was an idea whose time probably should never have come, it might be fun to put a few of the old girls back in service. What would be a good source to acquire the springs needed to reassemble these?

Or, I could just use all of the pieces to create some flat car and gondola loads.

Use

Kadee coupler springs.

Several options.

Springs on those trucks are notoriously missing.

They have little rubber wedges that fit in the slot,  There are also small metal clips that are made to fit.  Then the springs themselves.

The two sources that come to mind are Walthers and NWSL. for new parts.  The springs really need to be a stronger version that the Kadee springs.  They would probably old the side frame, but it would wobble easily and might not hold the wheel set in place well.

Another source of the springs is broken used trucks.  E-bay is where I would look for those.

Good luck.

So many trains, so little time,

Truck spring source

A tiny drop of CA at the top or bottom of the assembled truck will keep the springs from flying off into oblivion. To insert the springs, I compress the coils with tweezers -- grip the inner coils, not the top and bottom.

Kadde springs. I have quite a

Kadde springs. I have quite a few cars with sprung Kadee trucks and have no problems with them except then trying to get a flat car with a cam corder through super elevated curves. Also, for cabooses, you can get leaf springs and use them instead of coil springs. I believe the leaf springs came from Walthers.

The kadee coupler spring tool

The kadee coupler spring tool works great on truck springs. Bernd, the coupler springs are to small and weak.
