 Well let's see,where should

Well let's see,where should I start.

Ok,will do it this way.

Hi,my name is Johnathan (AKA Catt) I am 63 and newly retired as of 6-30-08. I am a modern era modeler as well as a multi-scale modeler. My main scale is N followed by HO and just recently Z.

I suppose that I should also mention that I am a free lancer but that my GRANDE VALLEY RAILWAY also interchanges with several real railroads and modeling them I am a total protomodeler. My GRANDE VALLEY RAILWAY has been around since 1978 in one scale or another and sometimes in several at once.

(Oh yeah,Josh Baako said I should tell ya he sent me

Hello from Alabama

I hail from the GA-AL line on the Alabama side of the Chattahoochee.  I model modern protofreelance.  I love Joe Fugate's work and hope to learn some useful info as I work to build my Georgia Road in HO scale.

Howdy everybody! Just wanted to introduce myself. David here in North Carolina and looking forward to seeing new content on model trains. I also freelance, but stay mostly with the Southern Theme with Eastern scenery on the DG&N Railway.

Since I'm on dialup (blah!), I will have to find someone to download the mag when its available, and evidently the forum messages as well. The embedded YouTube video is nice, but after 1/2 hour downloading I gave up on it, only getting 2:09 of the total 5:34 clip.

I also came from TrainBoard, and enjoy the discussions and informative nature of most of the posts.

Welcome, Everyone!

Welcome to the MRH site, everyone!

NCDave, as a dial up user, would you be interested in testing the dial up version of the magazine we'll be doing? If so, email me and let's talk. I'd like to get a version of the magazine that works for dial up users as well -- although the graphics won't be as nice since they'll need to be much more compressed.

Having one of your buddies download it and burn it to CD or throw it on a thumb drive for you is also an option, of course -- and you'll get all the rich media graphics in their full glory that way!

another one from AL

I also call AL home, but I'm over near Huntsville. I model the CP< from Placerville to Camino, CA in HO scale on a 19 x 4 layout. I am also starting a door-sized N scale layout of the M&C line in Chase, AL.

Hi from Belgium (Europe)

Yo all,

just to introduce myself; Jappe (abreviation of my first name)43 years young and living in Belgium (Europe).

Between riding my 2 Harley's, doing my "hunny to do lists" and having fun with my 10 months old Bullmastiff "Belle", oh and offcourse , working (lol), I am an avid US of A modelrailroader; N-scale and H0-scale. Union Pacific....freelanced

In my country it is some times frustrating when building a US of A layout, due to the availability of items. But with the comming of the World Wide Net that frustration is smoothing out, so is my credit card on times , lol.

I am currently building an "a la " lance Mindheim,  "east rail district" switching layout. Already done a switching layout in N-scale, but with the DCC sound area around I realy could not resist switching to HO-scale. Not turning my back to N-scale though. Thinking of building me a second N-scale "inglenook" when time permits. The first one is a bit to small to my liking.

Ok my friends that's it for me, for now ...

Looking forward for lotsa reading pleasure with this new e-zine.

Thank you

Hi Mr Fugate,

Thank you for the nice welcome and comments. Meens alot to me comming from you Mr fugate.

I forgot to mention in my introduction that I am also a model builder, anny scale. Maybe that's where it all started. Not willing to abuse on the picture posting, but here is a sample of my so called "other hobby", according to my Mrs, lol. For me when it is a model and in scale , I am lost, lol.

It is just a small sample of my collection, some times I think I will be needing a bigger house.........

The figurines are all done in "artist oil paintings". Only way to go imho.

Ok, time to run, scratchbuilding palm trees for my ,east rail district yard.........(thinking of a tutorial on those in the future)

Hope you enjoy;

Hello everybody from Mexico...

I have been surfing in this site and I think this new magazine is simply a terrific idea. I want to congratulate the staff and wish good luck!

I love trains and model railroads. I work in N Scale. My freelance layout "Port Isabel Freight Yard" is currently under construction.

I specially like the Burlington Route.  But in this occasion I'd like to share with you a picture of a Mexican train rolling in Port Isabel:

Hi everyone, I just signed up today. I think the idea of a magazine on line is a great idea. Love the pic's some real talent out there. I am in the testing mode with N scale. Set up a couple of main lines, a local and two small yards, all in KATO Track to test DCC and hopefully go computer controlled on day. I hope to model B&O in the mid 1950's. I look forward to learning and communicating with everyone.

Have a good day,

Chuck from Louisiana

Hi everyone, my name is Marvin and I am from southern Manitoba, Canada.  I think that this site is a great idea and I look forward to learning from, and talking to everyone.  I am still a rookie when it comes to modeling, I have been interested in trains as long as I can remember.  When I was young I had a Ho set on a 4x8 sheet of plywood but I never did much modeling.  Now I model Ho scale, I am currently building a freelanced diorama 2'x4'.  It is a mountain scene, I decided to build this as a way of learning the basics of scenery and ballest and tracklaying skills.  I don't have a layout plan yet but I am always thinking about ideas.  My favorite RR's are Canadian National(CN) and Canadian Pacific(CP).

Welcome, Marvin!

Marvin:

Welcome to the MRH site!

Building a diorama is a great way to get your feet wet in the hobby. I built four small layouts before finally building my "dream layout" HO Siskiyou Line. All the experience I gathered working on those other small layouts first proved to be invaluable once I got around to building a larger layout.

So have fun, and keep us posted! This site lets you upload photos too - we like pictures!

Greetings from Jersey!

Only in South Jersey we actually say "Jerr-sey", north of Camden it becomes "JOY-zee". I'm actuallu a regular over at the MRC site, but couldn't resist popping over here too. We're modeling in HO, we completed our benchwork, and now about 95 % of the track is down (save for the future staging area). The era is kind of relaxed, and since not much changes in Lancaster PA, we run PRR down thru early Conrail. It's on an 8x10 donut, built more or less modularly. Its a little cramped with a 4 track mainline, but my three older boys (ages 5 1/2; 4; and 2 1/2) all want to operate, so they each get their own track- and when Margie (21 mos) wants to try her hand she can use mine (Will, the li'l guy at 9wks frankly stinks at operations ). Below is an image of the first big freight (big for us) going the Lancaster Interlock.

ISR, welcome to MRH!

Just so people know, MRC = Model Rail Cast show, not Model Rectifier Corporation. ISR's a regular over on the MRC site, and has even had some vignettes on the show a couple times.

How to post a video from Youtube

When you're in Youtube, there's a section on your video called "Embed" that has a bunch of code that looks like this:

< object width="425" height="344"> < param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/voJ3RQ3QwMY&hl=en&fs=1"> < /param> < param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"> < /param> < embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/voJ3RQ3QwMY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"> < /embed> < /object>

You copy that code to the clipboard by dragging through it and doing a copy.

To post the Youtube video over here, follow these steps:

1. First come here and start a post by typing in what you want to say.

2. Once you've finished typing in your post (don't do save yet!), open another browser window

3. Go to Youtube, then copy the embed code as I showed above.

4. Come back to your post and click the Source button in the button panel at the top of the edit area.

5. Scroll down to the bottom of your post code, click at the very end of your post HTML code and do a paste.

6. Click the Source button again (the video won't show in the edit panel)

7. Then click Save (or optionally click Preview, then click Save).

You should see your Youtube video in your post like this (I pasted the above code into this post using the above instructions):

Hi red p.....

HI red p,

funy thing is , I might have heard you life one time, since I am an avid fan of http://www.railroadradio.net/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/ specially the Fostoria life stream, unfortunatly the person in charge of the transmitter had to take it down.......so now I am 99% listening to the Wilmington stream.  I understand that you personally prefer to listen to other things when not working.......but for  those interested, check out the link........(Wilmington, first link from the Eastern zone streams is my first choice for now, Fostoria beeing off- line)

The streams are a nice addition when working on the layout, some times I even put it up when playing MSTS, makes kewl cab chatter background.........
