A working replica of Trevithick's "Coalbrookedale" locomotive at the  Ironbridge Gorge Museum, UK, May 2004. Note the use of "L" cross-sectioned rails with the wheels trapped outside. This loco travels about 1/4 mile in distance and 200 years back in time. I was privileged to ride on the footplate for a few precious moments. The engineer for the day was "Dave", a very pleasant and informed fellow.

There is a documentary on You Tube

That shows this locomotive in action.  I wish I could remember the title.

I think this is it.

That's the one!

Thanks for spotting the programme, Nelson!

I'd seen this show before, but had neglected to link to it.

Beamish Open Air Museum

From the looks of some of the video, part of it was shot at the Beamish Open Air Museum. http://www.beamish.org.uk/pockerley-waggonway/

Beamish is well worth a visit if you get the chance and includes a rather large working walking beam steam engine used in coal mines. Here's a 10 minute overview of the museum:

Beamish is a little bit south of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
