Just saw an ad in the newest Gazette that appears interesting so I followed up on their website.  RailRoadAvenue Models isn't a MRH advertiser so far as I know but perhaps they could be encouraged to join.

Now if there were some way to use a special 3D CAD program to modify their designs (or others) to print custom LP...

Made to order LPB?

If you could generate a set of 3D models with heads, arms, legs, etc. as separate components, then it would pretty easy to make custom figures in any position you want.  The key would be getting the right component shape and rotation angle.  If I were a better modeler of complex shapes like people, I'd do it myself.

You could even have a library of heads, torsos, etc. to make fully custom figures.

parts is parts

If one were to create such a body part library then why not just do full length plus a little parts like legs and arms. They could then be sanded and filed to the correct shape to attach to a torso. This means having to have bent and straight arms and legs and torsos bent at waist and bent at back. And then do this for male female and child figures. The possibilities are almost endless.

Positionable 3D

My company uses 3D printing for a variety of engineering aspects.  Our supplier has a filament that once it's printed, when soaked in hot water, becomes pliable to bend.  We've never tried it, but their info for it shows a printed human hand with all the digits extended straight, ( think of the traced "hand turkey" we all made in grade school !) then molded into a "peace sign" to show the flexibility.

This could easily be used to print little people in a spread eagle stance, then soak and bend as desired.  3D print is just getting started with all of the potential uses.  It's a great technology.
