What happened to my blog post that I made yesterday? It was showing my most recent building project. That post had to do with the building of the Atlas Middlesex Mfg. kit

OK going to try again - Middlesex Mfg. Building

Here are the pictures of the Atlas Middlesex Mfg. that I just completed.

Bracing and second floor ready to install.62019(1).JPG

Second floor showing LEDs from Evans Designs installed. These are in a four light harness with all of the resistors already wired in.32020(1).JPG

This is the dock that comes with the kit. My guess it would be for truck loading.32021(1).JPG

Scratch built additional dock. This is not in the kit.32022(1).JPG

Wasn't me..

Yep - I saw this when you originally posted and was going to comment, but it disappeared (nothing to do with me by the way).

Anyway, looks very impressive and I will be very interested to see the scene it ends up in.
Please keep posting.

I love the name by the way: "Shadbolt & Boyd" - my kind of name

How Come

it is spelled "Shadboldt" on the water tower and end of the building and "Shadbolt" on the front?

signage and era

Great work. Thanks for taking the time to photograph and share with us. I have two questions:

1) How do you make the signs on your buildings, such as this one? The Blacked out area with white lettering.

2) What time period is your model railroad set in?

Thanks.

Great job, I just wish it

Great job, I just wish it said Erwin screw company. I recently took some photos of a long out of business company that was in a similar building. The business will make it on to my railroad when I begin building it. Your build of this structure has shown many ways for me to build a good looking model of this structure that will have the flavor of the prototype. Thanks for posting and I would also like to see more.

That's A great looking Building

I am a great admirer of Model Builders in fact so much that I prefer Model building over operating

Model Railroads. The better someone does at building and detailing the models on his railroad the

more It shows his skills in the hobby.

Your work at building this model is very good and except for leaving the letter "d" off one side of your

buildings name it is perfect, Clean and very well constructed.

Middlesex Mfg. kit

Yes - it was an OOPS, I did misspell the name "Shadboldt" by leaving out the "d". I need a better proof reader.

Maurice: I did the signage in MS Power Point. It allows you to make the shape fill any color you want and also the font color. So I used a faded color in the Black family I think it was at 50% and just used White for the font. The signage was then printed out on 20# plain white printer paper.

My railroad time period is set in the 1940's to mid 1950's. That way I can use both Diesels and Steam locos.

The sign has been corrected and will be applied over the existing one.

I must admit that I built this building for a gentleman in Wisconsin, but I liked it so much that I am now building a similar one for my own layout. It will be used in the industrial area of Ironwood, MI.

For those of you interested in seeing more of my structures please check out my MRH blog on this site. As time allows I will add more, but I am also thinking about either a web site or a blog on Google, but it takes so much time to set these things up.

Thanks to all for the nice compliments.

It seems that I have looked

It seems that I have looked at and enjoyed many of your builds in past readings and did not put them all under the same person in my mind. Great work and thanks for having a blog for us to enjoy.

Shadbolt & Boyd

Nice, distinctive name. However, stacking the lettering on the smoke stack makes the name hard to read, especially since it's in upper and lower case. If you have to stack your letterforms, it's best to have them be all caps. You could still use the upper and lower case in a horizontal layout, as you have done.

Middlesex Mfg. Kit

I have one of these kits in N-scale.  I'm getting ready to start painting it and would like to know what color and brand of paint you used to paint the brick walls.

Thanks,

Bob

Beautiful job. The prototype

Beautiful job. The prototype is located in Helmetta, NJ, along the CR Amboy Secondary Track,(Formerly the PRR Camden and Amboy). It was built by the Helm Tobacco Co. The prototype is roughly one third of the complex.

The rail side did not have a loading dock as I remember it. When the building used rail, the cars were spotted at the door.

Middlesex Building Paint Color

Hey Bob,

The paint I used for the building was Polly Scale #F414354 Special Oxide Red, but as you know Polly Scale is no longer available so unless you have some you will have to find another company with a similar color. The window sash and doors are also a Polly Scale #F414284 Pullman Green and the window sills, docks etc are a mix of Polly Scale Aged Concrete & Concrete #F414320/#F414317 respectively. Hope this helps.
