My continuing blog about building an 'affordable' small switching layout in the living room/dining room/kitchen, ie little real estate for a Model Railroad.

Benchwork is sorted with foam core and cork roadbed, Fascia and everything painted to match and now some of the track work laid. I haven't purchased my DCC system yet, looking at the NCE PowerPro and my first DCC locomotive, the expense being directed to trackwork, mainly turnouts. But I had my first DC run. Here's a few pictures... not the best quality, but pictorial progress in action.

Enjoy.

Anyway, moving forward.

Too cool!

Thanks for sharing - looks like a fun (and manageable) layout.

Great progress keep going

Great to see your layout get to this point. I just finished getting my benchwork up. Don't let cost of things slow you down. I have become very well schooled at there are plenty of things to get done on a layout that don't cost much to keep you  busy while you obtain the funds needed to get the bigger things. Relax and enjoy at least you got a DC pack to get things running!

The latest, and last layout design

Thanks for the comments Rick and Kevin.
Here's the latest/last track plan. I moved the street scene to the right. I goofed on the turnout measurements. I want to be able have one engine pull out out two cars at a time from the transfer yard from the lower right. I will itemize the industries and operations when I can sort out my Adobe Photoshop Text crash issues. And i'll update my plan on the track plan thread.

The wiring will be up next when I finish the staging yard track work.

Just feeders running one block as I will be running DCC and just a one engine operation. The other GP9m in the photos is a dummy (I have a powered one as well but it's an old Blue box Athearn 'grinder'). I plan to install a shelf above the backdrop for the lighting with a valance/fascia. So i'll have (my side of the shelf) to display my old locomotives.
As far as the expense goes, I have the structures I have to work on, including some additional work on the Angus station kit. Re-assemble the transfer facility building And... tackle all the details and intricate parts for the Walthers Plastic plant facility. It's questionable if i'll retain the office building next to the silo's.

Moving Forward. Happy Modeling. Cheers.

All the rest...

Once you have something running, all the rest is scenery. Well done!
